Three years ago, Sheretta’s journey looked very different.
At 398 pounds, even getting around was a challenge. She started with small, determined steps, walking up and down her hallway with a walker, refusing to give up on herself.
By the time she walked through the doors of the Y, she had already made incredible progress, losing nearly 90 pounds. But she still relied on her walker and was searching for something more: support, encouragement, and a place to belong.
She found it here.
“After doing water aerobics for just about 2 months, I put down my walker,” Sheretta shared. “I met so many people who encouraged me to keep going that I haven't stopped moving.”
Today, Sheretta has reached another incredible milestone (250 pounds!) and she’s not slowing down!
If you’ve been to the Y, you’ve probably seen her laughing in the lobby, showing up for classes, and lifting up everyone around her. She’s become a part of the heart of our community, the kind of person who makes the Y feel like home.
Next time you see Sheretta, give her a high five, a word of encouragement, or just a smile. She inspires us every single day and reminds us what’s possible when you keep moving!
