What a sad day!
For many years Royal Oaks was an integral part of the local community not only for Whiteman AFB, but that is no longer the case.
It’s all about money, always has always will. But don’t worry at the rate the leadership of the FSS and MSG are going there won’t be much of anything on base to entertain yourselves and your family.
Hope they all sleep better now knowing that Royal Oaks isn’t their problem any longer. Pat yourselves on the back, ya did well! 👎
Whats $70k? A B-2 toilet seat??
Golf Course Closure:
Effective date: Immediately
After careful consideration and evaluation, Royal Oaks Golf Course will be closing effective immediately. This decision was not made lightly and reflects a combination of operational, financial and long-term strategic factors. Multiple changes were made in FY24 to mitigate financial losses to include revising hours, membership options, opening Duffer’s Grill, alternate greens maintenance and care and despite our best efforts, Royal Oaks still experienced a ~$70K loss. For now, the clubhouse will remain open for scheduled events while much of the grounds will no longer be maintained, and signage will be posted soon to inform patrons that walking the course will no longer be permitted.
The following will be posted along the course: “By authority of the Installation Commander, the Royal Oaks Golf Course is closed. No individuals are permitted access to the grounds or greens. Access to the clubhouse is permitted only by prior approval through 509 FSS. Unauthorized entry onto the property may result in legal action.”
We understand that this course has been more than just a recreational space – it’s been a part of our base culture and community for many years. We’ll be sharing more details in the near future about the transition and alternate recreational opportunities on base or in the local area.
