So looks like the skating season at Legion Pond is over. The last couple snow storms made a sloshy mess that couldn't be plowed and now the melt begins. Its was an amazing winter on the ice and so happy so many people came out and enjoyed one of New Englands favorite pastimes! We pulled off the mini Olympics and a day I'll always remember. Its always hard when outdoor skating seaaon ends but i made alot of new friends and saw alot of happy skaters! Thanks to everyone that helped with the maintenance of the skating areas (especially Rob M) and all who donated thru the Legion Pond Go Fund Me, Venmo and some cash donations. We are keeping a tradition of publicly maintaining Legion Pond without any tax burden to Kittery. This was started when the Legionaires damned the creek in 1931 for a big skating area. 95 years and going strong! Also, I have quite a bit of lost and found items that were left during the winter and I picked up during snow storms. Here's pictures of most of the items. I'll post pics of some sticks left. The CCM Tacks are size 5. You can text me if anything looks familar and lost. All for now from me and Team Ice Scapers .

Legion Pond Ice Update Thurs Feb 26th. After the big snowstorm last Mon the 8-10" inches of wet snow on the ice is reforming another new crusty layer of ice. There is a layer of water between this and the solid ice we were skating on last Sun. This new weak layer of crust is not solid enough to drive my ATV and Plow. Very similar situation as the big 20" storm we got Jan 24th. Maybe if its cold for a couple nights I can plow it and flood it like 1st week of Feb before our Winterfest. It was much colder then but we'll see. If you do walk on the skating areas stay to the edges as the footprints that break thru the crust stay and make a bumpy mess if we plow and flood. Will Update daily until its too warm to do anything with the skating areas. I hope we can get another week or 2 of skating. Time will tell. Thanks. DK...The Plow Guy

And one of the Golds goes to 4 y.o Stephanie! 1st time skating and after 15 minutes with the 2 milk crates she wanted to skate free of all assistance. She didn't stop (except for a hot chocolate break) for 2 hours! Her mom and uncle all tried skating too and did great. I have been amazed all winter at how many kids from age 2 and up go out on the pond ice and enjoy it as much aa I did as a kid and still do today. Of course its the same for all ages and adults many who said they "hadn't skated in 10, 15 or 20 years!"...and with all the incredible Olympic Ice Sports it seemed to get people more inspired..Hope we can get the ice cleared after this next big snow and keep this skating party going! So much fun!

Legion Pond Ice Update Feb 22nd. After plowing all 3 rinks yesterday the edges flooded from the weight of the snow and didnt refreeze solid last night as i hoped. Edges and connecting ice you'll break through walking and skating on it. This big storm coming tomorow may be too much to plow and if edges not frozen solid it def won't be. I'll update tomorrow aft.

Legion Pond Skating and Ice Update for Sat Feb 21st. 5" of wet and heavy snow last night is making plowing difficult. Got all 3 skating areas cleared but sides are all water and it needs overnight to freezes solid so please best to stay off. Another snowstorm monday so we'll see if that can be plowed. Getting near the end of this great season.

Legion Pond Ice Update. It was a little soft on top wed and thurs but some people skated on rink #3. Snow coming and hopefully can plow it for Sat and Sunday skating. If possible we'll flood all 3 skating areas Sat pm. Need a couple volunteers for this from 4-6 pm sat if its plowed, scraped and cold enough. Contact Dana @ 603-475-5629 if you can help scrape and flood Sun from 3 pm.. thanks!

Legion Pond Update Feb 16th. Busy long weekend at the Pond. Averaging about 50-80 skaters in/ out each day. Ice is a little chewed up but warm couple days this week may melt surface or maybe we will flood each rink before next cold night. Grilled up Burgers and dogs for 30 on Sat and Homemade Chili and Dogs Sunday. Just hot chocolate today as grillmaster took time to skate and chill. Will maintain ice as best as we can until it melts. Come on down to this local winter paradise!
