Melissa here—Kent’s wife—I’m going to tell you how awesome he is. I picked a fish song to pair with this post… please enjoy while you read my novel.

After leaving me home alone for a week, allow me to recap the MN B.A.S.S. TOC on Le Homme Dieu 🎣

Practice day 1–I get a text. “In Urgent Care.” A few minutes later. “I’m fine.” This was TWO hours into practice. Gah! If you want to see a hook stuck in a hand, see photo 5. I wouldn’t, it’s gross.

Fast forward to the tournament.

I went to weigh-in & it went a little something like this…
Big fish (clapping)

Small fish (angler saying, “It was tough out there.”)

Heavy looking bag (Peter saying, “Got a big one in there?” & we all wait patiently to verify if it is big or not)

Small fish (angler saying, “Lost a good one out there.” —did they really?!)

Kent weighs in, my camera is READY.
Day one—he looks pissed-ish
Day two—he looks pleased
*HE MADE THE CUT*

Day three (he has his biggest bag of the tourney)—he smiles, this is a good sign my friends

I wait not-so-patiently for 40 other anglers to weigh in. Without access to a leaderboard. 😬

I’m a nervous wreck. He’s calm as cucumber (I think).

More sitting. More waiting. More watching.

HE QUALIFIED for the regional tournament by a few ounces 😅

So proud of him. So excited for the tourney next year!!
Stay tuned for how that goes.

Now… please join me in celebrating & clap for him below 👏

Oh, and let’s see if I do this part right:
We couldn’t do all this without some amazing partnerships. Big thanks to these folks for keeping my husband’s dreams alive:

Happy to come away with a 3rd place finish this week at Lake Minnewaska, with my good buddy at stop two of the Reel Team Trail. The conditions were tough with hot water, and bigger bites were hard to come by. Congratulations to the young hammers on the win. I leaned on one of my confidence setups, the 6’ 10” MXF St. Croix Physyx paired with a Seviin GS 3000 and a drop shot. When you trust your gear, you can focus on catching fish. Thanks to everyone who keeps supporting us. Back to work and looking forward to the next one.

I’ve been having a blast back in MN and fishing a few tournaments. This past weekend and I finished 7th/40 at the Reel Team bass circuit on Le Homme Dieu. We put the urchins to work and caught a mixed bag for a really fun tournament. I always say if you aren’t throwing an urchin or p**p style bait, are you even bassin’?!? I’ve tried so many different actions of rods for the large urchin and landed back with my ol’ faithful 7’ MHF St Croix Avid paired with a Seviin 6.6:1 GS Casting reel. That rod is 20years old and no telling how many bass I’ve caught on it. It looks a little different now, but still makes that rod and I highly recommend it!

139th/197 at Lake Norman.

Frustrated and honestly confused. I committed to a shallow pattern around docks and spawning fish, but never found the right quality. Over 5 full days, I had just 3 fish over 2 lbs—no way to build anything on that.

Weigh-in said it all… plenty of quality fish getting brought in, and I wasn’t around them. Missed it.

Conditions were good, pressure felt manageable, and my equipment was dialed—big thanks to my sponsors and to my parents for being there.

It’s been a tough season, no hiding that. But I’m not backing off—just more motivated to figure it out.

Back to Minnesota next. Time to reset.

At the Bassmaster Open on Eufaula someone hit my truck, looks like with the skeg of their motor. My best guess based on the angle is someone backed down the ramp and hit it while I was parking my boat, sad deal if it was one of our anglers. If anyone saw anything I’d love to know what happened.

Another swing and miss here at the second stop of the Opens. This time I found plenty of fish to do well, just could NOT get them to bite. Super frustrating but somehow still really like the fishery and can’t wait to come back. Few weeks off and we’re back on Norman for the next one.
