Let’s get a 2026 book list going!

I’m always looking for a great read that helps challenge the way I think, about health, personal development, mindset, and boundaries..

Here are some books that I recommend for you to read:

📚 On my list:
“Start With Why” by Simon Sinek
“Relentless” by Tim S. Grover
“The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey

What books are you reading now or have you read recently that you recommend to other men and women balancing self-care with a busy life?

I have a few goals for 2026… but you know what I also want?

I want more fun in my week.

That means more free time blocks to do something just because I want to, not because it’s on the to-do list.

For a lot of women and men in their 40s and 50s who are used to doing it all, it’s easy to get caught up in being super productive. Which is awesome, but when every hour is scheduled, there’s not a lot of space left for what they 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 to do.

The fix? Building in time for it on purpose!

You know what they say: if you want something to happen, put it in your schedule!

So that’s what I’m doing this year:
More time to spend with the people I cherish.
More room to just be!
What about you?

Want to take a quick look inside my journal?

Fun fact 1: I love the idea of writing out my plans, goals, and vision.
Fun fact 2: Actually doing it used to feel like a lot of work (especially when I was busy, tired, and had no clue what to write).

But when I found a super-simple 3-line method that took just a few minutes, you know I had to share it with you.

I call it 3D Journaling: Do, Decode, Decide

Here’s an example:

Do: I ate a protein-rich lunch instead of grabbing takeout.
Decode: “I had a ton of energy during the afternoon AND my stomach felt better.”
Decide: “Keep making the healthy choice even if I’m tempted by something else on the menu."

The cool part?

This method keeps me aware of how my choices affect how I feel, without making me feel guilty or like I blew it.

Try it and see how it works for you!

When Alejandro first met with me, he was already fired up and ready to go!

He gave me his list of goals:

→ Lose weight and lean out.
→ Eat healthier and be more consistent with nutrition.
→ Tone up and build lean muscle.
→ Improve overall conditioning, energy, and stamina.
→ Stay in shape long-term and keep himself accountable, especially at 41! 😆

Honestly, I loved the energy… because wow!

But here’s the thing: he’d made these same intentions before.

And every time, it led to the same result: feeling overwhelmed, getting too busy with work, with family and eventually quitting.

So when he joined JBO Fitness, we took a completely different approach.
Here’s what we focused on instead:

✅ Workouts that fit his schedule to where he can still show up for his family.
✅ Healthy meals he could prep in under 20 minutes, to maintain consistent nutrition.
✅ Having pure fun during the workouts without pressure to always be intense.
✅ Support so he didn’t have to figure it all out alone.

Just a few weeks in, he told me:
“JBO is where I build the best version of myself, one workout at a time. NO excuses!”

That’s because this time, the plan was built to last.

It’s perfect for [avatar – e.g. “women over 50 working on sustainable fat loss”] who want something quick.

Back when I first started JBO Fitness, guess what dropped to the bottom of the list?
My own workouts, nutrition, sleep, and overall self-care.

I was so focused on taking care of everyone else that I stopped taking care of me! 🤦

As a busy man or woman juggling family, work, home, and so much more it can be tempting to think you’ll get to your own self-care later.

Spoiler: later usually ends up being MUCH later, after you’ve already started to pay the price!

For me, it started with shorter workouts, grab-and-go meals, and pushing through even when I was exhausted...

Eventually, it started to show in my energy. (Not to mention the increased need for absolute perfection!)

The first step: I let go of the belief that putting myself last was somehow the “noble” thing to do.

Because when you burn yourself out trying to do everything for everyone, you have nothing left to give… not even to the people who matter most!

If that’s the cycle you’ve been stuck in, this is your invitation to break it.

If you’re trying to lock in your healthy habits, this might be the tool that finally makes journaling click for you.

3D Journaling takes less than 3 minutes but gives you powerful insights into:
→ What’s working
→ What’s not
→ Where to focus next

🧐 Here’s how it works:
Line 1: What did you do today that supports your health?
Line 2: What happened as a result?
Line 3: What will you do with that info tomorrow?

It’s about noticing the patterns and making small changes that actually stick.

When you stack simple habits together, everything gets easier.
