Lela Neeley is the daughter of Aaron and Katrina Neeley, and has been dancing at the studio since moving here from Iowa. She has been a member of KHS Dance Team and Color Guard for all 4 years of high school, as well as Tri-M for 3 years, where she served as secretary. Lela served as senior class president in Student Council and section leader of Color Guard for 2 years. She maintained a 4.0 + gpa in high school.
Lela received the Rising Ballerina Award in 4th grade, several top 10, top 5, and first place awards in competition solos, duets, and groups and has been selected for national dance teams of competitions. She was All-American all 3 years she attended UDA Camp. Most recently, Lela auditioned and was selected as a Truman State University Show Girl.
Lela’s favorite dance memories center around the total competition experience at the many dance and talent competitions she has attended. Her favorite dances have been Miss Sydney’s (Graves) fun and challenging hip hop dances.
Lela plans to attend Truman State University pursuing a Masters of Education degree in Elementary Education and to stay involved with the
Studio. Lela is grateful for her years of dance because, “Dance has taught me the importance of hard work and not to be afraid to take risks, and I want to thank Miss Marcia for providing the environment and offering her support to me through the years.”

collegiate dance team.

Allison Carriker, the daughter of Amy Carriker, has been dancing with our studio for 13 years. In her first competition solo at age 8, she was the high point and overall winner in her tap category. Since then, she has won numerous high placements, judges awards, and routine high points for her solos, duets, and groups. She also received the Mary Schreier Award for Dedication and Commitment to Dance at our studio.
Allison is a 3-year All-American Dancer with the KHS Dance Team, a member of Tri-M Music Honorary Society, a 7-year band member, and 4-year member of the award-winning KHS Color Guard, serving as section leader the past 2 years. She was a member of District Choir for 3 years, State Band, and Key Club, and has appeared in several dance and theatrical productions at KHS and Truman State University. Allison plans to attend MACC to earn an Associate of Arts in STEM and then transfer to a 4-year college in pursuit of a degree in Forensic Science.
Being with friends at dance competitions are her favorite dance memories, and performing Miss Sydney’s (Graves) hip hop dances have been her favorite dances to perform. Allison says, “Thank you to Miss Marcia and the teachers at the Studio for increasing my love of dance and for encouraging me along the way.”

Jane Ann Moots and our other outstanding dancers from our Competition Division will be competing this weekend at Dance Champs in Kansas City. At her last competition with our Studio, Jane Ann won the overall title, 1st place for her Competitive level solo, and the Judges Select Award at the Kansas City regional Bravo! National Talent Competition. She was also selected for the Bravo’s! Select award for the Bravo National Performance Team. Keep it rolling at Dance Champs, Jane Ann!

Graduating senior dancers Lela Neeley (left) and Allison Carriker (right) continue to be among the most decorated dance duets in the history of our Studio. In two of the largest dance competitions in the Midwest at Bravo! and CRU in Kansas City in the past 30 days they have achieved the highest adjudication awards given and finished as one of the top two duets qualifying for the National Finals in both Competitions. This follows their top duet awards in both regional competitions last year. We can’t wait to see you perform at Dance Champs next month!

Congratulations to our wonderful large group dancers who deservedly earned Ultimate Elite status and first place! Thank you, Miss Gen, for your choreography and loving attention to detail. And thanks to Natalie Nelson, Miss Kate, Miss Sydney, Miss Ellen and Miss Marcia who added their professional touches. Thank you also to our dance parents who devoted their family schedules to this group effort. And, most of all, thank you to 26 dancers - ages 6 to 18 - who came together in a fabulous way that has made us all proud! That performance was the perfect way to end the day.

Meet Our Graduating Senior Dancers:

Kate Marshall, the daughter of Greg and Nicole Marshall, has been dancing with the Dance Studio of Kirksville since January of 2011. In addition to being a member of the People In Motion Dance Company, Kate studied at the Kansas City Ballet in their Junior Summer Intensive Program (2019), and has attended multiple regional dance conventions and workshops. Kate competed her first solo, choreographed by Director Marcia Taylor at the age of five, earning a high point award and top 15. Since then she has earned various technique, performance, Overall Title awards, and top 10 placements for her solo, duet, and group dances. Kate also enjoys teaching and helping her students find their passion for dancing.

Kate’s major school activities include Dance Team (captain junior and senior year and a 4-year All American Dancer), National Honor Society, Key Club (4-year member and club secretary senior year), and Student Council (student body President senior year and class President the three years prior). Additionally, Kate is a Girl Scout Gold Award Candidate for her project on AAC device education.
