After seeing so many heartbreaking conversations surrounding this topic over the last few days, I felt compelled to say something.
This video comes straight from my heart.
To every person with Down syndrome who might hear stories that make you question your worth: You matter. You are loved. You are valuable. You belong. Your life has immeasurable meaning, and this world is better because youโre in it. Never let anyone make you believe otherwise.
And to the parents who have just received a diagnosis or are walking through those first uncertain days: Hereโs the truth: Parenthood doesnโt come with a manual. Every single one of us is just figuring it out as we go, loving our kids fiercely, making mistakes, learning from them, and putting one foot in front of the other. Itโs the hardest jobs on the planet. Likeโฆ really freaking hard. But I can honestly say itโs the most fulfilling and rewarding things Iโve ever done. And these incredible kiddos have a way of changing us for the better, teaching us every single day about unconditional love, joy, patience, acceptance, resilience, and how to be more kind, compassionate, and accepting humans.
I donโt pretend to have all the answers, but I do know thisโevery life deserves to be seen, celebrated, and cherished.
I know, without a doubt, that I am a better person because of Xavier. And I donโt think Iโm alone in that. Almost everyone who has the privilege of knowing him walks away a little kinder, a little more patient, a little more accepting, and a little more joyfulโall because he shows up as his authentic, unapologetic self every single day. โค๏ธ
