This is a tough post to write. After 11 years, we are shutting down Michael Wood Racing.
This is not a decision we wanted, but after failing to secure a sponsorship agreement for 2025, we don’t have a choice. It’s very expensive to race and be competitive, and it simply cannot be done without sponsors. Michael got his first go kart for Christmas when he was 9 years old, and fell in love with the sport. He won lots of races and a Championship in 2017. But as he moved up from karts to mini cups and eventually a full size late model race car, the costs to race moved up as well. Race teams shut their doors all the time, even at the NASCAR level. It’s just part of it. Great lifetime memories were made between Michael and I, and for that we are so incredibly grateful. We could not have done any of this without the following people who we will never forget. Mr. Alton Watts, Dale Watts, Ricky Dennis, Brian Musgrove, Walter Musgrove, Dennis Musgrove, Eric Halverson, David Einhaus, Derrick Griffin, Todd Blizzard, Bobby Becky and Susan Fuller, and Kraig Hall.
We will be selling all of our equipment at some point soon, and as soon as I can figure out pricing, I’ll post all of it here for sale.
If you’re a dad, and your son or daughter becomes interested in racing, try to make it happen. I can’t tell you how many great memories were made. Keep your kid busy. Help them with their goals. Michael was too busy with his racing addiction to get addicted to anything else and his mother and I are so greatful for that.

To potential sponsors of our team, this is what our car will look like for 2025 at Five Flags Speedway. Will it be a Chevy? Ford? Toyota? That’s totally up to you, and that car is a blank canvas for any paint design you want. All we ask is that the #2 remains the car number because our driver has raced the 2 car since he was 9 years old.

March 21st is the opening night at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola. We are still seeking a primary sponsor for the 2025 season, and we have spoken to a few local businesses who have expressed interest so we are very optimistic that we will have a 2025 partner soon, and you will see us on the racetrack in March!

If you wonder what race teams do in the off season, there are many things, but by far the most important task is to secure sponsorship for the upcoming season.
We can't thank OCV Apps enough for their gracious support to Michael Wood Racing LLC over the past three seasons!! Michael could not have raced if it wasn't for them, and we are incredibly appreciative! As both small, and major racing teams even in NASCAR know all too well, sponsors must do what is in their best interest, and sometimes that means moving in another direction.

So, Michael Wood Racing LLC will be searching for a new primary sponsor for the 2025 season. We are making major changes for 2025 that include moving our primary racing location from South Alabama Speedway to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola. This decision is solely based on the cutting down on travel time from 4 hours to and from SAS, to 15 minutes each way for Five Flags Speedway. We throughly enjoyed our 6 seasons at SAS, and are very grateful to John, his family, and his staff for a first class facility to race at, and for professional officiating at each race.

Started 9th finished 8th. Not the finish we wanted, but now we have 6 months to regroup in the off season and go for it in 2025! Time 2 Rest!!!
