𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 101-Day 1!
𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿? Here’s what you need onboard before you hit the water to meet US Coast Guard Safety Requirements!

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿
The US Coast Guard requires all boats 26 feet and under to carry a Type B fire extinguisher. These extinguishers are specifically designed to handle fires out on the water.

𝗡𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲
Noise making devices including horns, whistles and bells are required to be on your boat by the US Coast Guard. All vessels are required to carry an effective sound-producing device that is audible for at least one-half mile. Noise making devices work to alert others to your location in busy areas, low visibility and during emergencies.

𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 & 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲
All passengers on your boat must have an appropriately sized life vest onboard in case of emergencies. Life vests must be approved by the Coast Guard and be one of three styles; offshore life vest, near-shore life vest or flotation device, and a Type IV Throwable Device is also required on board.

𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀
Nighttime visual distress signals, such as flares and electronic distress lights, are required by the Coast Guard for use during emergencies on the water. Signal flares, smoke flares, and electronic distress lights are all available in the marine department at Neuse Sport Shop.

𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀
Navigation lights are required on boats operating between sunset and sunrise, as well as during periods of restricted visibility. These lights help other boaters determine a vessel’s size, direction, and activity to prevent collisions on the water.
