Carp Locker Baits

Carp Locker Baits Manufacture of Nutritional Carp freezer and shelf life baits. We also stock a range of particals and produce a range of Specimen leads.

PLEASE CALL TO CONFIRM WE ARE AVAILABLE AS IT MY CHANGE FROM DAY TO DAY. Note:
To keep freezer baits fresh store in the freezer between sessions and ideally in a cooler when on the bank when not is use. Stored correctly they can be re frozen for multiple sessions. Feeders can however be placed in a air dry bag and left out is a cool shaded area to dry out extending there shelf life. This will make them harder and loose some natural attraction.

Wow time has raced by.
I missed a couple of our club events towards the end of the year due to some family and work events.
Our club entered 3 teams into the 2024 Mill Creek Carp competition. This is a 3 day event with teams from all over the USA and some guys from the UK. Out of the 24 teams, our 3 all came in the top 10. It was a tough event with no signs of fish on our side of the lake. i did manage to hook 2 which i was really greatfull for.

Im really hoping to get thing going in the "kitchen" this year, finding local supplies is the biggest issue even for the simplest of items.

I leave you with one of my Mill Creek catches.

So it's been ages with not much happening but here is an update. It's been a slow grind and final got some work at the end of December after 8 months without an income. I had joined a local angling club and have a club comp once a month which is all the fishing I been able to do for the most part since August. I had a really poor start this year with blanks or single catches but pulled a habit out of the hat at yesterday's event. We were only 6 members this time as some including myself are in the midst of potential or active flooding and another sad event for the club.

I was told the venue in the past can be tough although they usually did this venue 2 months later. It was a beautiful day for a change from previos events and between the current flood rains. We saw a few fish showing when we arrived which gave me hope but also wondered if they may be spawning as many were right in the margin. Lines went in at 8am, i put 2 long and 1 short with a few spoms of partical around each. The first hour or so went by and I think I was the last to get one on the bank which made me nervous, but that quickly changed barely had time to sit.

I had 8 on the bank and things had slowed down in the afternoon and I just though if I can just finish with 10, that would make my day. The last 2 or so hours were tough seeing the others on either side of me catching and potential out fish me, both top notch anglers.
I had most my fish on the same rod and had already put the other 2 around the same distance and began noticing something since i wasnt getting any bites. With the last 30-40min I changed my technic after something G**s from "Little Lake" showed me during our session there, and it paid off with a run shortly afterward. AND ANOTHER....
At the end of the 8hrs I hooked 10 and landed 10 buffelo fish weighing between 6 and 17lbs from what I can remember.
We get the results with a breakdown at the next event but a quick count I had around 80lbs plus of fish and 1st place.
I'm so happy how that session turned out with everything co.ing together, it really got my confidence back.

We have about 4 more venues in the rest of the year that produce some good fish so hopefully I can work my way up the leader board before years end.

Some of the Buffs I caught.

It's been awhile since any updates. We'll the big news is we were getting our things sorted and immigrated recently. I will be setting up in the US in due time once we have a permanent place and our stuff arrives.

Just want to thank all the guys that supported my business, I can't thank you enough.

Had the opertunity to do a quick overnighter at Bersig this past weekend. Bux and I headed out on Saturday afternoon, it took some time to setup and the plan was to each fish 1 rod on the opposite bank and 1 close in but I landed up fishing mid water as it got to dark to see.

The next morning we got some advice from the guys next to us who were packing up, I change my bait and found a new spot. We had some heavy rain shower , each time fish would show all over the dam. Around mid morning Bux shouted out "You got a bite" all I saw was the bird on my rod, but it was the right alarm beeping. A quick dash to the rods and waited for another beep. After Bux untanged some w**d off my line and thinking i had lost it twice i got it in the net.

I guessed at 4-5kg looking in the net but weighed in at 6.6kg. Hook bait was a medium tiger I had been soaking in Tangerine and black pepper topped with a fake maize.

This was my first fish on a tigernut.

We took part in our second official competition that was over this past weekend at the vaal dam. It was tough going with wind and rain through parts of the weekend and people on our left who said " we can fish anywhere because its a competition".

Katy was the first to land a nice size yellow but unfortunately is not included in the competition missing out on the junior prizes.

In the evening Lisa landed a beautiful scalie mirror caught on a 16mm Bloody Spice boilie. The next morning she landed a fat common on a 16mm Banut boilie.

Lisa took 3rd ladies for the mirror and 1st ladies for the common, just a 100g or so lighter than the men's.

I am so proud of my 2 girls on their catches and the win.
If you wondering I had 1 run that was a nest of 5-6 rigs that drifted into my line. So I did my bit cleaning the dam of tackle🙈.

We did a day trip to R50 dam on Sunday for Fathers day joined by Buks and his family. This gave me a chance to do more testing with a new boilie I been working on.

We setup on one of the bottom dams and was close to 9am by the time all the rods were in. I used PVA bag rigs as in my previous post with a chopped down 16mm boilie that I tied the night before on both rods. I dropped my left rod a couple meters from the margin in front of some reeds and threw a small scoop of "Particle Crush" over the area. The right hand rod went close up against an island in front of me which I had measured out with a marker rod and spodded out 4 bombs of particle.

Just before 12 the right hand rod began a slow long beep. Fish on, it came in with very little fight so I assumed it was a tiny fish until I got to look at it in the net. It was a stunning scaly with a fat belly..

Not having a spare PVA bag made up I smeared some paste on the lead and over the boilie and threw it back out. 40 minutes later another slow run on the same rod. This time a bigger Common with a little more fight.

After getting the rod out again I threw a couple more spods out and moved my left rod to the corner of the island.

It was quiet for the rest of the day till later that afternoon I hooked up a little one which was the last one for the day.

PASTE

A somewhat underrated and forgotten component of our arsenal in specimen angling.

Last week we had a little time on the river bank planned at a venue close by that re opened this year since covid hit. I wasn't expecting much from past experiences, after the first couple hours it looked like it was going to be a quiet day with the weather going through 4 seasons.

It was time for a change of tactics with some paste wrapped around a 16mm dumbell. Just my luck I had to take a walk and on my way back I see my wife playing a fish on my rod. I took over and got it in the net.
With spirits lifted I wrapped up a couple more. After a quick storm. I had 2 more screaming runs. New PB's for this venue. Lol

The rig is a textured 3oz inline with a 10cm soft hooklink and a size 5 hook. A setup used for PVA bags. The looped hooklink is also perfect for a pap gooi rig too.

Time to do some cooking. Coconut in 16mm round and dumbell.
