Announcing our 5th Lifter of the Week for the 2025-2026 season: AJ Reo!

Check out the video of AJ hitting 315 on bench!

Since joining the team this semester as a freshman, AJ has been an enthusiastic and committed member. His athletic background, which includes playing soccer throughout high school and lifting for fun, led him to immediately seek out the URI Powerlifting team this semester. AJ sees this as a perfect opportunity to challenge himself and experience something new by preparing for his first-ever competition.

AJ’s impact on the club goes beyond his numbers; he truly embodies enthusiasm for the sport. He has found a welcoming, informative, and motivating environment with his new teammates.

“I feel as though I’m right at home with all of the new people I have met in this club and cannot wait to get to know them even more.” - AJ

This year, AJ continues to be an exciting addition, embracing the team atmosphere and already looking forward to his first powerlifting meet on November 15th. The team is energized by his eagerness and enthusiasm he brings to the table. The team greatly appreciated his willingness to jump right in during October, where he absolutely smashed his first time spotting and loading for the club. We are incredibly proud of his decision to join us and look forward to seeing him step onto the platform for the first time!

Announcing our 4th Lifter of the Week for the 2025-2026 season: Ruby!

Check out the videos of Ruby setting her 4 records and her 355lb squat.

Since joining the team in Fall 2023, Ruby has been an inspiring member. Her commitment lead to outstanding performance last year where she set 4 USPA CT state records. In the 18-19 age category 100kg class Ruby has a record in squat, bench, deadlift, and total.

However Ruby’s impact on the club goes beyond her numbers; she truly embodies dedication to the sport. With her consistent, hard training, and spirited presence at URIPL events, Ruby is a tremendous asset to the team.

This year, Ruby continues to be a standout member, leading by example in the gym and encouraging her teammates to push their limits. The team greatly values her connections and the significant role she plays in fundraising for new equipment. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and look forward to seeing her onthe platform once again this semester!

Announcing our third Lifter of the Week for the 2025-2026 season: Hunter!

Since joining the team in the Fall of 2024, Hunter has been an incredible asset. He brought a fantastic energy from day one and, though new to powerlifting, he dove in headfirst by competing in his very first semester.

Hunter’s commitment to the club is exceptional—he consistently leads by example, whether it’s driving members to meets or motivating the team. Last spring, he excelled as our team handler, providing invaluable pre-platform pep talks and support.

This academic year, Hunter has stepped up as our Treasurer and has become a standout e-board member, all while cultivating a welcoming and chill atmosphere for everyone. We are so excited to see him back on the platform this semester and can’t wait for his performance on November 15th!

Kyle is a new member of URI Powerlifting and as a freshman he has already shown his dedication to this team and this sport. Kyle is super excited to be on the team as it has always been himself figuring out form, programming, and diet. He has been consistently working out for 3 years but only started powerlifting in March 2024. With only 3 competitions under his belt as a freshman he holds 5 state records. A couple weeks ago he competed in Northeast Regionals breaking 2 state records shown in the videos above. We are super excited to see what Kyle does on this team! Nationals 2025 👀👀👀👀

“Powerlifting is way more to me than just lifting heavy weights its where I’ve met some of the most influential people in my life and made great memories with my friends at competitions and just in the gym” -Kyle

We are so excited to start a new series for our instagram highlighting lifters in our club every week! Julia DeMaria is a senior on our team who joined URI Powerlifting last year. After completely killing it in her first ever powerlifting competition in December Julia started to prep for bodybuilding. From January to August she worked her ass off. In her first bodybuilding competition she competed in bikini winning 1st in novice and open class which led her to get her OCB PRO CARD in August. Two weeks later she competed in figure and won 1st in the open class. In bodybuilding, bikini is more about overall proportional presentation, but figure is focused more on upper body. As she is no stranger to dedication and hard work Julia exhibits what URI Powerlifting is all about. Julia the team is so proud of you and we are thrilled to see you back on that platform although you killed it on that stage.
