HIRING IS HARD. It’s hard to manage people. It costs money. It takes a huge amount of time to find, vet, and train people.

But no matter how hard you work, or how Beyonce-like you may be, there are still only 24 hours in a day.

So in order to build something more evolved than what you are currently doing, you need to involve other people.

In our latest post, we share 7 things we've learned about hiring help (even as a tiny handmade business).

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed with all you have to juggle as a maker, business owner, artist, and human being, learn more here:

Rule of thumb: love the one(s) you’re with!

If you’re growing wholesale, it’s tempting to focus entirely on getting new orders from stores. But one of the most important things you can do is cultivate your relationships with your current stockists.

While every maker is different, we believe there are some DOs and DON’Ts that apply for most makers.

So consider these if you’re wanting to grow wholesale for your business this holiday season—swipe right.

As we gear up for the holiday season, you might find yourself asking these questions:

🔸 Should I create holiday-specific items?

🔸 I have some special holiday items in my line. Should I add a holiday themed page to my linesheet or send retailers two documents (my linesheet AND a 1-page, holiday-themed, mini linesheet)?

🔸 I'm considering offering an incentive to retailers to place their holiday orders before a certain date. Is this a good or bad idea? What would good incentives be, and what would be optimal timing?

If this sounds familiar, read our latest blog post—"Simple Ways to Grow Wholesale During the Holiday Season"—with answers to these questions and more!

“Ack!! I'm already SO happy with Wholesale In a Box!”

Got this email in my inbox a long time ago. But stumbled across it again the other day. Hearing this kind of thing from our makers never gets old.
Thanks, Kathy.

At Wholesale In a Box, we advocate the importance of doing thoughtful, consistent outreach to shops you think would be a good fit for your line.

But—that can be scary.

We are programmed, biologically and culturally, to keep our heads down, not stand out, and not expose ourselves to risk or rejection.

We all know intellectually that building a business requires putting ourselves out there, connecting, and raising our hands to say “I have something to share!” But deep down, we’re really, really scared to do this.

So a friendly reminder (and something we teach in our free training):

- The braver you are, the more your business will grow;
- You can learn to be braver and braver;
- The way to get braver is by acting braver than you feel, a little bit at a time.

Whether you are a newbie or a seasoned pro, your goal approaching holiday wholesale should be to get orders in the door without a bunch of extra work.

The majority of makers we work with have an incredible depth of experience and business savvy but they mentally discount it and say that they’re
“making it up as they go along” or “flying by the seat of their pants.”

Honestly? That is true for very few of the people in the WIAB community.

Our advice is to claim the knowledge you have by spending 20 minutes jotting down answers to these questions:

🔸 What went well for me last holiday season?
🔸 What did I wish went better last holiday season?
🔸 If I were looking at my business from the outside, what would I recommend doing?
🔸 What are a few things I can do differently this year to build on what worked, do less of what didn’t, and get better results?

There is always an element of luck in business growth. But a huge portion of it is in your hands.

You can grow your wholesale, and you can do it sanely.

Prioritize connecting with stores as much and as effectively as you can with your outreach material and highlighting your best sellers.

Make a plan for the upcoming months and make sure you are connecting with the people who will love your work.
