Scout's first day with packs and some weight. We also added some bit pressure. He took both really well. We of course did all the same things from last week to reinforce. We did get a little hoppy at first again. Got over it very quickly. Went on a trail ride and ponied him
Came home with a tired boy and added the new things. He' a fast learner and realized he prefers a loose lead rope hanging off his bit rather than keeping himself tight against it. He found the release on his own and kept his forward motion for me. Scout can really get into his round penning and not respond if hes not on a lead, which I prefer having a connection to them through the lead, but when first introducing new things. I let them lunge free to get over it then we go back to communicating the release and pressure through the lead. Its the first step to teaching them one reined stops, whoas asking for flexion and eventually ground driving and reining. Most c**ts I work with are completely settled and responsive to the bridle before I ever get on them. Scout is a personal horse so his jounrey is a long one. Just like Beau. The plan is to have 2 nice finished horses. Thats years in the making. Ive reached the age i really dont want to take outside clients and ride other peoples horses anymore.
