This year’s recipient is Kings Park-native Sal Agostinelli. There is nobody that has done more for Long Island baseball players than Sal. He is the Director of International Scouting for the Philadelphia Phillies - a position he has held for 20 years and his scouting department has signed more than 60 big leaguers - most notably Ranger Suarez, Carlos Ruiz, Seranthony Dominguez, Carlos Carrasco, Hector Neris and Cesar Hernandez. Sal played a part in helping build their 2008 and 2022 World Series teams. In terms of Long Islanders, he drafted Brian Hansen (Longwood 2001), Jesse Berardi (Commack 2014), Nick Fanti (Hauppauge 2015), Kyle Young (St. Dominic 2016), Brian Morrell (Shoreham-Wading River 2017), Ben Brown (Ward Melville 2017), Logan O’Hoppe (St. John the Baptist 2018), Logan Koester (Chaminade 2019). He owned Sal Agostinelli’s Baseball Academy which many of Long Island’s top hitting instructors began their coaching careers at. He also ran a summer camp for many years which helped hundreds of young ball players learn the game of baseball. Sal will be inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame later this year.
