Meet Coach Pendergrass

Head Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field Coach | Kings Mountain High School

Coach P. is proud to step into the role of Head Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Coach at Kings Mountain High School, bringing a passion for the sport, a competitive mindset, and a commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the track.

With a background in track and field, Coach P. understands that success is built through discipline, consistency, hard work, and the willingness to push beyond limitations. As a first-year head coach, the vision is to establish a program rooted in excellence, accountability, teamwork, and championship-level preparation.

Coach P. believes that track and field is about more than times, distances, and medals. It is about building confidence, developing mental toughness, embracing challenges, and teaching athletes how to compete with purpose. Every practice is an opportunity to improve, every competition is a chance to rise to the occasion, and every setback is an opportunity to grow.

The mission is to create a culture where athletes hold themselves to high standards, support one another, represent Kings Mountain High School with pride, and strive for excellence in the classroom, in competition, and in life. Through intentional development, strong leadership, and a shared commitment to the process, Coach P. aims to help every athlete recognize their potential and pursue their goals with confidence.

The standard is excellence. The mindset is championship. The mission is growth.

One Team. One Standard. One Mission.

To My Track & Field Family,

After much thought and prayer, I have decided to step down as Head Indoor Track & Field Coach and Head Women's Track & Field Coach at Kings Mountain High School.

For 13 seasons (2010–2018 and 2023–2026)—12 as Head Coach and one as an Assistant Coach—I have had the incredible privilege of coaching some of the finest young men and women I could have ever hoped to meet. What began as an opportunity to coach a sport I love quickly became one of the greatest blessings of my life.

Together, we built a program that our entire community could be proud of.

Over those 13 seasons, our teams compiled a 334–33 overall record, won five conference championships and nine Cleveland County Championships, finished as conference runner-up four times and third three times, produced seven Conference Players of the Year, and I was humbled to be named Conference Coach of the Year five times.

Those accomplishments represent years of commitment, sacrifice, and teamwork. They belong to every athlete who gave everything they had, every assistant coach who invested countless hours, every parent who supported our program, and every alumnus who helped establish the culture that made our success possible.

As proud as I am of those accomplishments, they are not what I will cherish most.

I will remember the long afternoons on the track, the bus rides to meets, the conversations during practice, the excitement of personal records, the heartbreak of races that didn't go as planned, and the joy of celebrating victories together. I'll remember watching nervous freshmen become confident seniors, teammates become lifelong friends, and athletes grow into remarkable adults.

To every athlete who ever wore "Kings Mountain" across your chest: thank you.

Thank you for trusting me to lead you. Thank you for believing in our culture, holding yourselves to a high standard, and representing Kings Mountain with pride. You challenged me to become a better coach every single season.

To our alumni, thank you for laying the foundation that each generation continued to build upon. The traditions, expectations, and family atmosphere that defined our program exist because of you. Your legacy lives on every time another Mountaineer steps onto the track wearing black and gold.

While I am stepping away from coaching, I am not leaving Kings Mountain High School. I am incredibly excited to continue serving our students and community in my new role as Assistant Principal. Although my role is changing, my pride in this school and my love for our student-athletes never will.

People often ask coaches what they'll remember most. My answer will never be the wins or the championships. It will always be the relationships, the memories, and the privilege of being part of so many lives.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey. Coaching at Kings Mountain has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I will forever be grateful for every season, every meet, every challenge, and every victory we shared.

Once a Mountaineer, always a Mountaineer.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Coach Raza-Spearman

Kings Mountain Athletics joins Stuart W. Cramer High School in mourning the tragic loss of a member of their baseball coaching staff prior to last night’s playoff game at Burns High School.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the coach’s family, the players, coaching staff, students, and the entire Stuart W. Cramer community during this incredibly difficult time.

From one school community to another, Kings Mountain High School stands with you.

Due to the ongoing construction at our stadium, the KMHS Track & Field program was unable to host any home meets during the 2026 season, resulting in the loss of a major source of fundraising income for our program.

As we prepare for our annual Track & Field Banquet and Awards Ceremony, we are seeking support from local businesses, alumni, families, and community members to help us celebrate our student-athletes and continue building our program.

Any donations beyond banquet expenses will directly support future program needs, including:
• Equipment purchases
• Meet entry fees
• Athlete recognitions
• Team meals
• Team-building opportunities

We are incredibly proud of our athletes and grateful for the support of our community.
