Outer Banks Kayak Fishing & Excursions

Haven’t been posting much, cuzz I’ve been busy. This is the last month, after a long kayak fishing career, that I’ll be guiding on the Outer Banks. My wife and I are moving to Cudjo Key Florida August 1. Actually the wife will be there in two weeks to start a new job teaching at the Sigsbee Charter School on Naval Air Station Key West. By 2010 I had already put down drum, cobia, tuna, mahi, and much more from the yak and wanted to do this move, but the kids were young and the wife was vested in NC schools. Now the kids are grown and the wife just retire, so we’re making this happen. We’ve purchased the biggest 5th wheel we can and we have a water front lot it’s going on, just a 1/4 mile from tarpon grounds. We can drop the yaks off our bulkhead and go. I have no plans to guide there…just looking to mirror the wife’s schedule and fish with her, when we’re off. I’m extremely thankful for all of my followers and supporters that kept this going. Being able to watch and help unfold my idea of motorized kayak guiding with OBX on the Fly has been incredible and fulfilling. I’ll be changing the name of this account soon and I hope y’all stick around for more adventures. Top of the list is sails and tarpon from the yak. Life is short people, so go live it.

Had 4 clients in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. None of them had ever caught a pup before, but that all changed yesterday. The morning started off slow, but then we had quite a few schools all to ourselves and all four guys were hooking up at the same time for a couple hours. The afternoon slowed a bit, but we still got on plenty of singles. I hit the water at 7 and came off at 7. It was a long day, but helping people catch our state fish for the 1st time was well worth it. 🎣🐟

This was a good one from 2009. and I ocean launched, along with one other person. Me and the other guy were knocking back triggerfish, while Ric posted up with an anchor and chum bucket to target cobia. This was after the height of the season, but there were still some looming. Ric had put a live eel out in his slick. After a while I hear Ric hollering and I was expecting to see the man in the brown suit, but instead this was flipping out of the water, after smacking the eel. That was a fun, fun day.

It was crazy surprise to hear the drag smoking insanely hard. I thought my client had hooked into one of the big yearlings we’ve seen roaming the flats, but nope, it was just this big ol blue in 3ft of water. Thursday was lack luster with no wind, but the fish were chewing yesterday. The last pic of Mark was cool. At age 60 he had only ever fished once before, and caught one fish. We upped that game a touch yesterday. # speckled trout

I’m gonna get situated down here and there’ll be some sick kayak missions later on. I’ve had the plastic fleet on these waters before, but with the Torqeedos some serious damage will occur.

Fly fishing from the yaks may seem difficult, but more and more clients are figuring out that our fleet of Bonafide Kayaks were designed for adventures of all kinds and standing to fly fish is pretty easy, with such incredible stability. 🎣 # speckled trout
