"Suffered in Advance"
"We suffer more often in imagination than in reality." - Seneca
Seneca wrote that to a friend who was wrecked with worry about something that had not happened. Two thousand years later the mechanism is unchanged. The dread before the hard conversation, the heavy set, the phone call you keep not making, is almost always bigger and longer than the thing itself. You end up paying twice. Once in advance at full price, then again for real at a discount.
