When December settles over the earth, the world steps into its darker beauty. Nights lengthen like ancient pathways. Frost gathers along the edges of the earth. Light thins into something pale and sacred, and everything in the natural world begins to speak in a slower, older language.

This is the season when you may feel the pull of the subtle enchantments that only winter can hold. The hidden magic shimmering in the quiet silver of morning. The stories carried by the wind as it moves through bare branches. The deep lessons offered by creatures who walk the cold with instinct sharp as bone.

A different kind of wisdom begins to rise now. One that does not hurry and does not shout. A wisdom shaped by patience. By shadow. By the slow turning of the earth beneath the frozen ground. It reaches into the inner chambers where noise has lived too long. It loosens old knots. It awakens what has been waiting in the dark.

There is a sacred beauty in creating small winter rituals. A stone placed with intention. A branch laid upon a table. A candle lit not for brightness but for presence. Even a moment of still observation can reveal the ancient cycle. Endings folding into beginnings. Darkness shaping the first quiet breath of light.

And there is a fierce, tender magic in writing letters or notes during these long nights. Do you feel the beauty of shaping words that seem lifted from a winter grove. Lines that steady the spirit. Truths that return the body to its instinct. Reminders that winter is never empty but alive in its wild and mysterious ways.

December asks for presence. For a slower step. For eyes that can see what moves beneath the surface. For a willingness to be touched by the quiet force that rises when the world grows still.

Winter carries its own medicine. Its own guidance. Its own ancient way of calling you back to the deepest part of yourself.

Howdy Good People. This morning I recieved a message from the wonderful Amelia Thomas that the print edition of an article that she wrote for Telegraph Magazine piece, in which she mentions me and my work, ran today in the UK (print readership 1.7 million!).

I'm thankful for that news, and thought it was worth sharing.

I hope you’re having a wonderful Saturday.

Possible After-Effects of Tick Paralysis in Dogs
These can be short-term or longer-lasting:
1. Residual Weakness or Ataxia
• Uncoordinated movements, wobbliness, or general weakness in the legs (especially hind limbs).
• May last days to weeks, depending on how severe the paralysis was.
2. Respiratory Issues
• If respiratory muscles or laryngeal nerves were affected, there may be:
• Shallow or labored breathing
• Gagging or coughing
• Laryngeal paralysis (stridor, noisy breathing)
3. Facial Nerve Paralysis
• Drooping lip or eyelid, difficulty blinking.
• Typically resolves over time.
4. Voice Changes
• Bark may sound hoarse or different due to vocal cord involvement.
5. Aspiration Pneumonia
• If the dog had swallowing difficulty during paralysis, food or water may have entered the lungs.
• Signs: coughing, fever, lethargy, poor appetite.
6. Stress or Psychological Effects
• Dogs may become fearful, anxious, or avoidant due to the trauma of immobility.
7. Muscle Atrophy
• If immobile for a long time, muscle loss can develop, prolonging recovery.
Best Supportive Treatments
1. Neurological Recovery Support
• Physical rehabilitation (under vet guidance): assisted standing/walking, underwater treadmill therapy, range of motion exercises.
• Acupuncture: has shown benefit in some nerve regeneration cases.
• Vitamin B-complex: especially B1 (thiamine) and B12, which support nerve repair.
2. Monitor and Support Breathing
• Watch for signs of respiratory distress.
• Oxygen therapy or nebulization may be required temporarily.
• Avoid exercise or excitement if there are lingering breathing or vocal cord issues.
3. Hydration & Nutrition
• Soft, easily swallowed food if swallowing is compromised.
• Elevate food/water bowls to reduce risk of aspiration.
4. Medications as Needed
• Anti-inflammatories if there’s ongoing nerve irritation.
• Antibiotics only if secondary infection like aspiration pneumonia is suspected.
5. Veterinary Re-evaluation
• Chest X-ray if breathing or swallowing is still compromised.
• Neurological exam to assess progress.
Red Flags to Watch For (Require Immediate Vet Care):
• Coughing while eating/drinking
• Persistent breathing problems
• Inability to urinate/defecate normally
• Sudden relapse in coordination or strength
Long-Term Prognosis
• Most dogs recover fully within 1–2 weeks of tick removal.
• However, full nerve regeneration in cases of severe paralysis can take several weeks to months.
• Rare cases may develop permanent laryngeal paralysis or weakness.

This work is also helpful for dogs. Share, go out and work with your horse... find some solitude and joy with your Bestie!
Share with friends, Rescue facilities, Riding therapy facilities, young riders clubs, Horse Adoptions lists. The more we know, the better horses lives become.

"Equine Partnered Bodywork will introduce a light touch therapy technique we can do WITH our horse. Through practicing mindfulnessand presence, we observe interactions that create a meaningful connection with our horse. By applying a light touch to the neck of a horse, we will see and recognize different levels of response, by staying on the point or area, the horse will ‘process and release’ their own tension, be it physical, mental, emotional. We in turn will feel our stress level melt away into relaxation. This activity will increase the joy of riding and being with horses while putting us in a blissful state of being!

This course is presented in an ‘active learning’ format. Get involved when seeing, reading, listening, feeling and sensing. Imagine you are doing this work as you watch - the ability to remember and perform will be 10 times better! Having applied this inner work first, the difference when you actually go out to work with a horse, is astounding!

Our use of visualizing, hearing, and reading during the demonstration, creates retention of what we are doing and looking for with the horse. Horses tend to disconnect when we aren’t prepared and connected. Focus fully, when in front of the computer or phone - listen, read, take it all in, then go be with your horse. Learners who take this course come from all over the world, speak many languages, are all ages. The content as presented can be easily translated into many languages as well as the language of ‘energy’. Adjust the Udemy resolution to best and speed settings as needed for faster or slower delivery."

With so much love & gratitude,
