🪿🌺 A VERY SPECIAL HAWAIIAN VISITOR! 🌺🪿

Yesterday morning we were treated to a pretty special visit from none other than Hawaiʻi’s official state bird — the Nēnē, or Hawaiian goose! 💛

The Nēnē is found nowhere else naturally in the world but the Hawaiian Islands, making an encounter with one something truly special. 🌴

Here are a few fascinating facts about these beautiful birds:

🌺 The Nēnē is a relative of the Canada goose, but over thousands of years it adapted to life on Hawaiʻi’s rugged volcanic terrain. Its feet have less webbing and more padding than many other geese, helping it walk across lava rock.

🌺 Nēnē came frighteningly close to extinction. By the 1950s, only about 30 birds remained in the wild. Thanks to decades of conservation and reintroduction efforts, their population has made an incredible comeback.

🌺 Nēnē are protected wildlife, and one of the best things we can do when we’re lucky enough to see them is simply give them space.

Please admire Nēnē from a respectful distance, never chase or approach them, and never feed them. If they choose to wander near you, stay calm and let them decide where they want to go. 🪿💚

Living and working in Hawaiʻi means sharing these islands with some of the rarest and most extraordinary wildlife on Earth. Encounters like this are such a beautiful reminder that we are visitors in their home. 🌺🌊

🌅 MORNINGS LIKE THIS… 🌊✨

This is how we started our day aboard No Ka ‘Oi… cruising into Molokini at sunrise with not a breath of wind and glassy ocean as far as we could see. 😍

There’s something pretty incredible about watching the sun come up from the water—Maui glowing behind us, Molokini waiting ahead, and the ocean so calm it almost looks like glass. 💙

And today? The conditions stayed PERFECT all day long! 🙌🏼☀️🌊

These are the mornings we live for. Early alarms are a whole lot easier when THIS is your commute! 😂🤙🏼

🌊 BACK ON THE WATER & LOOK WHO CAME TO SAY ALOHA! 🌺🤙🏼

After Mother Nature gave Maui a little shake-up with the recent storm, Maui Snorkel Charters is BACK out on the water today! ☀️🌊 And apparently, the ocean decided we deserved a pretty amazing welcome-back gift…

✨ A COASTAL MANTA RAY! ✨

What an incredible sight to see this beautiful manta gracefully cruising through the water! 💙

Here are a few fun facts about these gentle giants:

🌊 Coastal manta rays are reef mantas (Mobula alfredi) and are often found around reefs, coastlines and cleaning stations.

📏 They can grow to around 11–12 feet across, with some reaching even larger sizes!

🦐 Despite their impressive size, mantas are filter feeders, dining on tiny plankton and other microscopic organisms.

💕 Manta rays are completely different from stingrays in one very important way — they do NOT have a venomous stinger! They are gentle, curious animals.

🧠 And here’s one of our favorite facts: manta rays have the largest brain-to-body ratio of any fish and are known for complex, curious behavior.

🔵 Every manta has a unique pattern of spots on its underside — almost like a fingerprint — which researchers can use to identify individual animals!

After a few stormy days, there is nothing better than getting back out there, feeling the sunshine, seeing Maui from the water again…and having a magnificent manta show up to remind us just how magical this ocean really is. 🌊✨

🐬 SPINNERS SHOWING OFF! 🐬

Just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better, a pod of Hawaiian spinner dolphins showed up and put on an incredible show right in front of the boat! 🌊✨

These amazing dolphins get their name from their spectacular ability to leap out of the water and spin through the air—sometimes completing multiple rotations before splashing back into the ocean. And today, they definitely wanted to show us how it’s done! 🤩🐬

One of the things we love most about being out on the water every day is that you never know who might show up! We always give our marine life plenty of space and let encounters happen naturally—and when the dolphins decide to come say aloha, it’s pure Maui magic. 💙
