Delivery of Motor Vessel "Proving Grounds" - A Memorable Journey

I recently had the privilege of delivering the stunning 2018 Viking 48’ ST Viking motor vessel named "Proving Grounds" from Anna Maria Island, Florida, to Galveston, Texas. This 850-mile journey was nothing short of spectacular, filled with memorable stops and remarkable experiences along the Gulf Coast.

Setting off from Anna Maria Island, Florida, the first leg of our voyage took us to Destin, Florida. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, with calm seas allowing us to cruise at nearly 37 miles per hour effortlessly. "Proving Grounds" showcased its prowess, offering a comfortable and smooth ride, making the journey a joy.

Our stop in Destin allowed us to refuel, clean the boat, and prepare for the next part of our adventure. Thanks to McGuire's Irish Pub of Destin, best pork chops ever, and great wait staff.

The following day, as we made our way to Grand Isle, Louisiana, we encountered winds of 20 kts, and waves of 2 to 3 feet. Despite the conditions, the Viking 48 handled them with grace and comfort, proving its reliability and seaworthiness.

Upon reaching Grand Isle and the welcoming embrace of Hurricane Hole Marina, we were greeted by exceptional facilities, friendly service, and delicious dining options at the marina's restaurant. It was a delightful pitstop that added to the overall experience of the trip. Not to mention the 705lb Blue Marlin being at the scale.

The final stretch of our journey, covering approximately 300 nautical miles with following seas reaching 4 1/2 to 5 feet, was a true test for this little Viking. However, "Proving Grounds" rose to the occasion, effortlessly slicing through the waves with minimal roll, thanks to its stabilizers. The performance and comfort of the vessel left a lasting impression, making the delivery a truly enjoyable experience.

Delivering "Proving Grounds" was a privilege, and I look forward to the possibility of encountering another Viking of its caliber in the near future. This journey was a testament to the excellence of the vessel and the pleasure of being on the water.
