The SS Benwood was a cargo ship that sank in 1942 off the coast of Key Largo, Florida, after colliding with another ship during World War II. The crew survived the collision, and the ship was eventually towed to shallow waters near Key Largo. After failed attempts to salvage the ship, it was declared a total loss and abandoned in its current location. Today, the remains of the ship lie in about 25-45 feet (7.6-13.7 meters) of water, making it a popular dive site and underwater attraction.
