📰💜 WCSC GYMNASTICS & OUR PROPOSED JACKSON HOME — LET’S TALK ABOUT PARKING & COMMUNITY
Recently, parking concerns regarding Washington County Sports Center’s d/b/a WCSC Gymnastics proposed new location in Jackson were featured on TMJ4 News.
We completely understand why residents and neighboring businesses would have questions about a new organization coming into their community.
And that’s exactly why we want you to get to know us — and understand how our small club actually operates.
💜 WCSC is not a large-scale gymnastics facility.
We are a small, grassroots nonprofit organization with a simple goal: to create a place where children and families feel like they belong.
Our proposed Jackson home is only approximately 2,800 square feet, spread across two stories. Our programs are intentionally designed around small groups — generally about 10 children in a class at a time, with approximately a 5-to-1 child-to-instructor ratio.
That’s important to us.
We want our coaches to know every child’s name. We want to celebrate the little victories. We want parents to get to know one another. We want children to build friendships, confidence and a sense of belonging.
💜 We want WCSC to feel like a community within the community.
🚗 So, what about parking?
The proposed facility currently has a 17-space parking lot, which we believe will accommodate the traffic flow created by our small class sizes and controlled scheduling.
One important part of our operation that may not be immediately obvious is that all WCSC classes, programs, parties and special events are pre-registered. We do not operate on a drop-in basis.
That means we know in advance how many children and families are scheduled to be at the facility.
Classes are scheduled in designated time blocks and generally limited to approximately 10 children at a time. Our goal is to carefully manage scheduling so families arrive and leave in an organized manner rather than creating large, unexpected surges of traffic.
Operating seven days a week actually helps us accomplish that. Instead of concentrating families into only a few busy evenings, we can spread classes and programs throughout the week and maintain the smaller groups that are central to our mission.
Our primary programs will serve children approximately ages 2–12, and we also hope to expand opportunities during daytime hours through homeschool fitness programs.
🏠📚 Homeschool Fitness Opportunities
One opportunity we’re especially excited about is creating daytime fitness and physical education options for local homeschool families.
These programs can give homeschool children a structured, welcoming environment to stay active, learn gymnastics and fitness skills, build confidence and develop friendships with other children in the community.
Offering homeschool programs during daytime hours also helps spread facility use and traffic throughout the day rather than concentrating everything during traditional after-school hours.
🌟 And we want to serve more than just athletes.
We hope this location will allow us to create adaptive learning opportunities, homeschool fitness programs, special community events, and relationships with organizations such as Special Olympics and others who share our desire to make sure more children have an opportunity to participate.
This location would become WCSC Gymnastics, one part of the larger Washington County Sports Center nonprofit mission.
As WCSC grows, our long-term vision is to potentially establish other small locations dedicated to different sports and activities — creating more opportunities for children while maintaining the personal, community-centered atmosphere that is so important to us.
We aren’t coming to Jackson looking to overwhelm a neighborhood.
We want to become part of it.
We want to support Jackson businesses.
We want to participate in community events.
We want to know our neighbors.
We want local families to walk through our doors and feel welcomed.
And most importantly, we want the children who come through WCSC to learn that being part of a community means supporting one another, including others and giving back.
We know we’re the new kids on the block. 😊
There may be questions along the way, and that’s okay. We welcome the opportunity to introduce ourselves, listen to our neighbors and show the community what WCSC is really about.
We’re not trying to build the biggest gym.
