This last weekend some of us from Dreamswept Farm went to a CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) conference at Timberline Ranch in Maple Ridge B.C. The first night the keynote speaker was the CEO of the CHA, Christy Landwehr, who shared insightful data about horsemanship and how it has evolved through the last five generations, she was also entertaining and kept us laughing about the effects of the modern world and how valuable adopting a horsemanship lifestyle can be.
During our time there we brushed up on our horsemanship, marketing, and even life skills that gave us some great ideas that we would like to add to our own program. In these sessions we learned, how to properly secure a horse on the trail with hobbles by Scott DePaolo, (he’s a Pack adn Trail Assistant Certifier), about a new horse sport in the U.S. called Equitation by Trisha Kiefer-Read, (she’s a CHA master Instructor) and even ground driving with little, fuzzy ponies ( Named Reese's Pieces and Ricky-Bobby) and a morgan horse (named Milo) that has been in a number Hallmark movies! Ground driving was coached by Kay Veinotte,(an Equine Canada Driving Coach).
Tammy has been coming to these conferences for over 20 years and is a member of the CHA. While there we met some of Tammy’s good friends that she has not seen in a while it was a lot of fun to watch her interact with friends and like minded people.
It was a lot of fun and a great experience for the staff. I think this will benefit us all as a staff and a facility.
