We wish you a happy 4th of July weekend, albeit we do so as our country has taken some scary turns lately!

One of the biggest is directly related to outdoor recreation, clean air, the health of our rivers and streams, and the longer term livability of our planet for our kids! That is, The Supreme Court recently stripped the Environmental Protection Agency of important powers related to regulating power plant and other polluters emmisons. This leaves the EPA with inadequate methods of regulating big polluters. This could have huge implications on so many things we easily take for granted!

Of course, as Americans, there is a path to fixing this. The first is to vote for politicians who will actually work for the environment. With the new SCOTUS ruling, this is even more important on the state and local levels. VOTE!!! The other side of fixing this is our individual responsability to do the little things like recycling, and managing our consumption of whatever we can. Turn off your lights, turn off your car, don't overwater, think twice about the products you purchase.

At Sturtevants, we are working hard on our role in the problem but still have lots of work to do. Some of the steps we are taking include; making sure we can service and extend the life of products purchase from us. This was our #1 reason for launching our apparel and gear repair service center this spring. And, of course we fix and service bikes, skis, and footwear as well. We also prioritize brands who are taking real steps to minimize their carbon footprint. We aim to make commuting lower impact by offering practical bicycles. We are improving our internal recycling and are currently working on how to reduce our paper consumption.

We love our country, we love our planet, but freedom is not free. We all need to work on ourselves and the things we can influence. Happy Fourth of July Weekend. Be safe! ❤️❤️❤️
