Congratulations Boater Safety class of 2026. Everyone passed! What a terrific week and a terrific group of students.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out on Water Day and scored tests. We could not have done it without you.

And of course, a huge thank you to our lead instructor Sue Thoma and her assistant instructors Kristin Allen, JJ Toppins and Alyce Licari. It takes many hours of preparation, lots of organization and a week long commitment to pull off what we think is the best Boater Safety course in the state.

Day #3 of Boater Safety was another information filled day. We reviewed types of life jackets and throwables, including which types are US Coast Guard approved. We discussed slow-no-wake (a lot), legal vs illegal operation of vessels, fire safety, fire extinguishers and flame arrestors. Special thanks to Warden Schrafnagel for spending time teaching students and answering questions.

Everyone is looking forward to our hands-on water day on Thursday. Fingers crossed that the rain stops by noon tomorrow!

Boater Safety - Day #1 is in the books!
Some of our lessons included identifying parts of a boat, demonstrating how dangerous the suction of a jet drive can be, connecting and disconnecting a boat trailer, docking in various wind directions, give-way & stand-on rules and navigating at night. That's a lot of information for 3 hours of class time!
