We are going to start a regular Tuesday/ Thursday cleanup on the River Trail, Creeks and Parks to help staff get the trash cleaned up.

Every Tuesday and Thursday for the foreseeable future we will meet at 9:00 am at a clean up spot. There may be earlier start times, it will all be up to date on the Texas Hill Country Trails Alliance website.

The details of what to bring and locations will be published at https://texashillcountrytrailsalliance.org
https://texashillcountrytrailsalliance.org/kerrville-volunteer-cleanup-locations/

Attached is guidance for Woody Debris management.

This is a volunteer led effort. The city is overwhelmed with this last flood. It is alot for everyone. We can wait for time and funding or we can jump in and help. I’m choosing to jump in to help.

Please pass this on to whomever you think might want to help.

Release form is on this post. Please fill out and put in your volunteer start time and estimated finish time. It helps with matching funds and grants. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfYp_8bsX63namYWEyvrbDv_ik2CIe6vZRDK1305JZVtIsnmg/viewform?pli=1

It is very full filling work and alot can be accomplished in a morning by a motivated group of volunteers. Please consider volunteering.

Please complete this form to register as a volunteer and review our liability waiver.

Hi folks:

There is a man out of Boerne, John Henderson that is leading a volunteer effort to clear the River Trail. I helped this past Sunday and there is alot of work that we need volunteers for. They are allowed to use skid steerers and are uncovering the intact concrete of the River Trail that was covered with A LOT of gravel.

We were taking any woody debris and putting it in the holes that are now along several places of the River Trail. We were pulling the debris out of the railings, trees and separating out trash while saving any vegetation.

There is another work day this Sunday- 8am and 1pm- two shifts or all day.

Bring:
Work gloves
Hat
Sunscreen
Snacks or water provided for volunteers but I always like to have my own.

Any of these tools if you have:
Push Broom
Shovel
wire cutters
Scissors- or something to cut the wrapped debris away from the trash/ clothing/ etc
blower
Pick
Anything to work the dirt and debris loose
Chain saw- there is some need for a chainsaw but there is alot of hand work

Attached is the flyer. If you can spread the word to anyone and everyone you know.

We are also looking for a front end loader for moving the larger piles of gravel further away from the trail or spread along the trail if you know anyone.

There is so much damage from this flood. The City is strapped for funds and we can wait as a community for the funding and time to come or we can jump in and help. For those of you that use the River Trail, now is your chance to give back if you are able.

Lisa

Frankly we are amazed with what we got done today. It was a little daunting when we arrived this morning but quickly so many awesome hardworking people started showing up. Friends and customers. We pretty much gutted the shop. But seriously after 30+ years we needed to throw some stuff out. For Adam especially, it was a much needed purging of many things. In between news interviews and random local people that showed up to help we’re at a loss for words. Still a lot of work to do but we made a big dent. Thank you to everyone! And thank you to Pint and Plow for sending us lunch- they are the VERY best!!

Hi all- Hill Country Bicycle Works in Kerrville flooded. Hwy 16 between Kerrville and Fredericksburg was closed most of today. There is rain tonight so we’ll see what happens tomorrow. We do not know if the Fredericksburg shop will be open on Friday and at what time. We need to assess Kerrville as there was no power and KPUB a told us to stay out of the building as there were critical lines down across the high water of Town Creek. Adam and I are safe at home which is higher. Everyone stay safe out there! Clean up will begin as early as tomorrow as we dry out. I really will need a ride soon to clear the head!!

We’ve got tickets at both shops! Proceeds go to the Kerrville River Trail Flood Recovery Fund 😊
