😮‍💨Summer is finally here and especially anyone with preschool/ school aged littles, you probably are like me where you feel like you can finally take a long exhale.

⚖️Preparing for summer when you’re a working mom often feels like a second job—searching for all of the available VBS options, summer sports camps, enrolling in swim lessons, finding a summer sitter, making sure the kids have enough camps and lessons to keep them busy, but not bored.

🤯But what about mom? Who takes care of the one holding all of the complicated schedules together?

📋With new seasons, I always like to create new personal goals. Often they include ways of me trying to improve my health-whether it be getting physically stronger, enhancing my spiritual health through daily devotional practice, nurturing emotional health by planning outings with friends and taking time for self care.

🧘🏻‍♀️If you’re feeling a bit burnout and exhausted from the madness of “Maycember,”consider setting some goals centered around self care.

🫶🏻One of the things I love about working at SALT is that you have the option to meet all of your needs; strength, flexibility and mindful movement if you book a Pilates class, acupuncture to address pain and stress, chiropractic services to help with spine dysfunction, wellness services to improve skin, sinus and nervous system health, head spa/hair care, waxing and facials to treat yourself to self care and physical therapy to improve your strength, mobility, posture and enhance bowel and bladder control.

🧖‍♀️Don’t forget about yourself when you’re in the process of carefully planning ways to go above and beyond for your kids to make their summer special. With this new summer season, give yourself the permission to take care of YOU and give yourself the reset and recovery your body needs!

💁🏻‍♀️You can book private pilates classes, group pilates classes or a PT evaluation with me directly from my website: www.mamatothecore.com or from saltkerrville.com

☀️🩷🥰Investing in yourself is always a good idea. Wishing you a safe, healthy and happy summer!

This past Friday I was blessed to host a ribbon cutting to officially recognize Mama to the Core as a business in Kerrville through the Chamber of Commerce.

I felt so incredibly supported by our community, my wonderful work family, my dear friends and my sweet family.

I’m so grateful that Kristin, fearless owner of SALT Wellness & Sports Recovery, took a chance on allowing me to join an amazing team of talented wellness professionals, grateful for all of my friends and family who prayed for this discernment since God put the nudge on my heart and beyond thankful to my parents and my husband who believed in me when I doubted myself.

My kids also deserve lots of gratitude since they unfortunately had to endure some seasons where my focus wasn’t as presently on them as I would have liked, as I worked towards preparing for this endeavor and big step in my PT career.

I’m excited to continue supporting women of Kerr County as they heal from back/hip/pelvic pain or injury, overcome pelvic floor dysfunction, regain their confidence postpartum or just feel more empowered and stronger in their bodies. 🩷🩷

It’s been a minute since I shared a “Mindful Monday” post and as we approach Mother’s Day in the next couple of weeks I thought it might be helpful to touch on mindfulness surrounding Mother’s Day.

Working in Women’s Health keeps me very informed and aware of the importance of being mindful of sensitivity with the motherhood journey. I wanted to share some gentle reminders and also offer some ideas of ways to express comfort and support to those who might be experiencing grief with the upcoming Mother’s Day.

Reminders:
💞some women yearn to be mothers but may be facing fertility challenges
💞some women may be facing loss of a child
💞some women may have lost their mother or grandmother
💞some women may have a strained relationship with their mother

We don’t always know everyone’s story so when approaching Mother’s Day, remember to be aware that Mother’s Day isn’t always “happy” for everyone, it can also be a painful reminder of loss or disappointment.

If you have a loved one that’s facing any of these life situations mentioned above, it’s best to show your support through:

1️⃣ Being present and patient —grief takes time to process so be available to your friend/family member when they feel ready to lean on you. Maybe leave them a note or send them a text just showing them you care and you are thinking of them.

2️⃣ Offer specific help—bring over a coffee or hot meal, ask them for their grocery list, organize a play date with their kids, fold laundry for them.

…Don't ask how you can help—generally when you’re consumed by grief you don’t have the bandwidth to voice your needs—so just doing chores or small acts of kindness can be so helpful and appreciated.

3️⃣ Listen more, talk less. —sometimes it’s hard to know the right words to show comfort. It can be helpful to allow the person grieving to steer the conversation and talk through their emotions at their own pace.

🌻 ♥️

This past Saturday I ran Half Marathon #9 for me, the Outlaw Half Marathon. As a runner who has been racing for 23 years, I definitely tend to have high standards for myself and my competitive nature is forever chasing a PR.

This training season was pretty challenging and erratic due to my current “busy mom” season of life where every day is very much out of my control and plans often become foiled due to kids’ illness.

Usually I go into a race with a time goal but this time, I just followed my sister’s advice and “enjoyed the time to myself and my ability to run and didn’t put the pressure on myself to try to break any records.”

Luckily I already reframed my mindset to slacken my expectations for myself before the starting line so I could just enjoy the race and remove the disappointment when I play the comparison game of comparing Saturday’s finish time to my last half marathon race time from Dec ‘23 that was almost one minute faster per mile🙃.

A new epiphany hit me at mile 5 of the Outlaw race—really after each baby, a new race distance should automatically be a new PR rather than comparing to a PR pre baby #3 since my mobility, free time, energy and priorities all change with such a major transformation as growing a new baby and adjusting to life with a new member of the family.

So here’s to a new perspective of absolving myself from comparing race times and (trying to) just run for the love of the sport and the appreciation of what it does for my mental and emotional health 🩷 And giving myself grace and peace in retiring from the half marathon racing era, at least until it can feel more like fun and less like work.

Yesterday I had the distinct joy of hosting a Brunch & Learn and doing one of the things I love most about my career, educating women about pelvic floor health and therapy available to help them on their journeys.

My PT heart was so happy to see a packed room of eager, engaged learners. 🥰🤓

Grateful for opportunities like these to share my passion with women in our community 💗

Being a working mom is always a balancing act. Usually when I feel like things are moving forward with my career, I’m feeling the tug on my mama heart since I’m not being as present as I would like to be with my kids. When I’m feeling plugged in and validated in feeling like I’m being the mother I want to be for my kids, it usually means I’m drowning in paperwork to make that happen. It’s incredibly tough to try to invest into both of my callings in the meaningful way I expect of myself.

In my almost 10 years of being a PT, I’ve taken lots of great continuing education courses but I’ve been lucky in that all of my previous courses have been remote courses I could take from home or ones I coordinated to “self host” right from our rehab clinic so I didn’t have to coordinate travel.

This weekend was the first course I had to travel to, and that really flared up my mom guilt since it meant I would miss the entire weekend with my kids. Thanks to my village I was able to offload my husband from watching all three kiddos and my girls enjoyed the treat of a sleepover at my parents.

This Herman & Wallace pelvic floor course was the best one yet and taught me so many interventions and educational concepts that I can apply immediately with my current caseload—definitely already used some techniques today!! I also was blessed to be surrounded by 13 other pelvic health loving therapists who all share the same love and passion I have for this niche.

It was a lot of preparation and coordination to make this course possible but the payoff of feeling validated in my career choice, expanding my pelvic rehab social network, the lucky perk of the course being semi close enough to squeeze in a quick breakfast with my sister and adorable niece and coming home to the two most affirming notes from my daughters, reminding me that my work is appreciated, was so moving.

Thankful for a solid weekend of learning and growing 🩷🤓📚

I’m pretty disappointed in my race pace/finish time today but I’m learning to give myself grace during this very demanding season of motherhood when my kids’ needs come way before my hobbies and any leftover “spare time” I have to devote to those.

My energy level was pretty darn low at the start of the race since 2/3 of my kids battled RSV this week, so naturally mama is left running on fumes.😴

My competitive nature struggles with this but I’m trying to remind myself that just showing up and competing is a win in itself, even if there’s no PR to show for it, since it’s a commitment to prioritizing my health and wellness.

So even though today’s race didn’t go as I hoped, I’m thankful my kids are on the other side of a nasty virus and I have a family who shows up to cheer me on and support me in a hobby that brings me joy. At the end of the day, those are two beautiful blessings that I’m beyond grateful for 🩷🫶🏻✌🏼🏃🏻‍♀️
