Congratulations to Sumner High School graduate Airman 1st Class (A1C) Michael Mixon!

Please join us in congratulating A1C Michael Mixon on successfully graduating from U.S. Air Force Basic Military Training (BMT) at Joint Base San Antonio–Lackland in San Antonio, Texas!

A1C Mixon distinguished himself throughout training by serving as Flight Chief, Top Dorm Chief, and earning the title of Honor Graduate—an incredible accomplishment awarded to only about 70 airmen out of more than 700 trainees!

A1C Mixon is part of a long line of Tangipahoa Cadets who have answered the call to serve our great nation in the United States Armed Forces. His dedication, leadership, and commitment are an inspiration to those who follow in his footsteps.

A1C Mixon will soon head to Keesler Air Force Base for technical training, where he will receive expert instruction in his career field.

Congratulations, A1C Mixon! The Tangipahoa Cadet Squadron, Tangipahoa Parish Public Schools, and Sumner High School are incredibly proud of you!

Keep soaring to new heights as you begin this exciting journey with the United States Air Force!

This week, Hotel Flight cadets at Roseland Montessori explored the principles of flight and aerodynamics by designing and creating their own paper airplanes. They then conducted experiments to see how different modifications affected their planes’ performance and whether they could make them fly farther!

In addition, our Hotel cadets learned how to properly Air Force roll their sleeves on their ABU/OCP blouses—another important skill in maintaining a sharp and professional appearance.

Great job, cadets! Keep learning, experimenting, and striving for excellence! 🚀

Check out the inaugural publication of “The Cadet Gazette,” a monthly newsletter produced by our cadets!

C/Maj Gracelee serves as our Squadron Cadet PAO (Public Affairs Officer) and Chief Cadet Editor of The Cadet Gazette. She is supported by a dedicated team of cadet PAOs from each flight who capture photos and stories of our cadets in action from across the parish and assist with producing each monthly edition.

Through The Cadet Gazette, our cadets are developing valuable skills in photography, journalism, communication, leadership, and public affairs while showcasing the many accomplishments and activities of our squadron.

Great job, cadets! Keep aspiring for new heights!

This past Tuesday, cadets from all around the parish came together for our Bravo Flight meeting to prepare for the upcoming parade in October! 🇺🇸

Great job, cadets! Keep up the hard work, discipline, and dedication. We’re looking forward to seeing you all in action at the parade!

Juliet Flight’s Cadet Commander, C/2Lt Stephanie Saia, recently took the time to teach her female cadets how to properly style their hair into the military bun required while wearing uniform.

C/2Lt Saia explained that maintaining a proper military bun is about more than looking professional and meeting Air Force regulations—it is also an important safety requirement for female cadets and service members.

By teaching these standards and leading by example, C/2Lt Saia is helping her cadets develop the discipline, attention to detail, and professionalism expected of future leaders.

Great job, Cadet Saia! Keep leading, teaching, and inspiring your cadets to reach higher peaks!

This week at Foxtrot (Ponchatoula Jr./High Schools), under the guidance of Flight Commander 1st Lieutenant Quadesha Stewart, our cadets learned the basics of military drill, marching, and physical training (PT)!

In a military organization like ours, basic drill is the very foundation upon which we build the leaders of tomorrow. Drill teaches discipline, teamwork, attention to detail, and the importance of working together as a unit.

PT helps keep those future leaders physically and mentally fit, developing the strength, endurance, and resilience they need to face any challenge that comes their way!

Proud of our cadets and the progress they’re making!

Cadets from Jewel Sumner Middle School’s Juliet Flight recently learned proper flag etiquette, including how to correctly fold our nation’s flag in preparation for their daily responsibility of posting and retrieving the colors.

This was a great experience for our cadets as they learned the meaning behind each fold and gained a deeper appreciation for the flag and what it represents.

As we honor the brave men and women of our armed forces—those who have fought and continue to fight for the freedoms we all enjoy today—we are proud to see these young cadets learning the importance of respect, honor, and tradition.

Great job, cadets!
