Happy Throwback Thursday!!!! See if you can guess this Parks and Recreation building.

Our friends over at the Kent Historical Society found us these great pictures of our Rec Center! Built in 1880, it used to be the old South School but was partially demolished in 1965 due to the completion of Holden Elementary. It was then leased to us here at Parks and Recreation to use as the recreation center. Can you believe that it used to look like this?

Kent Historical Society also sent us a picture of a Third-grade class standing outside the building. The South School taught six grades of children and helped older immigrants learn to read and write English!

Looking to showcase your work? Art in the Park 2026 is looking for artists! If you're free the weekend after Labor Day (Saturday, September 12th - 10 AM - 6 PM and Sunday, September 13th - 11 AM - 5 PM) join us at Fred Fuller Park and show the community some of your work.

Monetary prizes are awarded to best of show, first, second, and third places. Ribbons are awarded for honorable mention and best display.
