Behind the Stall Walls... Horse Lessons or Life Lessons?

I was at a clinic once when the clinician was talking about our horses and how we manage their emotions. As he wrapped up, he smiled and said, "By the way, I'm talking about horses too."

I'm not sure everyone caught what he meant, but that phrase has stayed with me ever since.

As a high school teacher in my day job, I spend a lot of time helping students navigate emotions and finding ways to motivate, encourage, and support them. Hearing that simple statement opened my eyes to something far beyond what many of us think we're working toward with our horses in lessons: shows, trophies, blue ribbons, and titles.

I started to realize that horses may be some of life's greatest teachers, if we're willing to listen.

Fear... Anxiety... Anger... Abandonment... Self-doubt...

Don't get me wrong, the horse doesn't magically make those things disappear, but somehow they find a way to guide us through them. They teach us patience, resilience, trust, confidence, and emotional awareness. They challenge us to face what we'd rather avoid and the best part is, they reward us when we do.

Here's the cool thing, most of the time we don't even realize it's happening. Until one day, you look back and see how much you've grown. How much stronger, calmer, or more confident you've become.

Maybe that's why the best advice is often the same... slow down, be present, build trust, and give yourself grace while you learn. Growth rarely happens all at once. It happens one step, one small victory at a time.

"By the way... I'm talking about horses too."

It was so fun to be back at Wheeler Green for some Pony Club fun!

It started with a downpour that made us all question our life's decisions but after a while, cleared up and turned into a beautiful night. All the riders worked as a team with their horses, piloting young ones, overcoming buddy sourness, riding some big opinions 😳, rocking grass stains and all the while wearing huge smiles on their faces.

Big shout outs go to:
Addie and Jill in ground poles
Harper and Kree in crossrails
Keira and Cliff in crossrails
Sophia and Artie in crossrails
Aeri and Rainer in 2'

We even ended the night with an exciting lesson in equine breeding with Miss Delilah, stay tuned for more details about that!

Thank you to the GVPC crew that hosted the evening!

Behind the Stall Walls... Finding Your Place

How many of us have questioned the choices we make? Wondered if we're doing the right thing, pursuing the right path, or surrounding ourselves with the right people?

When I watch my horses interact, I often think about herd dynamics. Each horse plays a role, and together they create something we all seek... peace, security, and, of course, dinner 😜. What amazes me most is that they don't spend their days questioning where they belong. They read the room, adapt to the moment, and settle into their place within the herd... without the self-doubt and overanalyzing that so many of us wrestle with.

For a long time, I struggled to find my place in the horse industry. Was I an eventer? A hunter rider? A dressage rider? Add in the western cowboy who has been one of my greatest influences and that only complicated my search for an identity.

I don't have ribbons from the top divisions. I haven't started hundreds of horses. The horses I've bred don't carry a laundry list of titles or accomplishments. For a long time, those were the things I used to measure success.

But somewhere along the way, that changed...

More recently, I found myself surrounded by people who value the culture we've built in our barn. Riders who listen to their horses and work with them rather than expecting their horses to work for them. Riders who are willing to talk about their fears, work through their emotions, and build confidence one step at a time.

Through it all, I've realized something important... finding your place isn't about fitting into a label or collecting accomplishments. It's about finding the people who share your values, challenge you to grow, and remind you who you are.

Every time I look around our barn, I'm reminded that I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be. ❤️

We are currently accepting new lesson students!

At Marsh Creek Meadows Equestrian, our goal is to help riders build a strong foundation in safe, effective horsemanship that will support them in any discipline they choose to pursue. While our program is primarily English based, we focus on developing well rounded horsemen and horsewomen both in and out of the saddle.

Lessons are available for all ages. Riders may use one of our lesson horses or ship in their own horse.

Whether you're brand new to horses or looking to continue building your skills, we'd love to help you reach your goals.

Message/call/text us for more information or to schedule a visit!
