The other day I overheard someone talking about a new "diet plan" they were on.
*
They had a pretty significant reduction in calories and had made plans to "completely overhaul" their day to day routine.
*
While this is wonderful, and I am always happy to hear people express their desire to change their lifestyle, my next thought was "too much too quickly."
*
The "too much too quickly" idea that often times results in failure. You know the one- the New Year's resolution to be in the gym everyday, eat healthy all week... that type of big goal. Or a lot of little goals all at once.
*
Goals are awesome and I NEVER discourage them. But what I ENCOURAGE rather, is that you start with one aspect that you want to fix/change about your day to day habits. Just one.
*
For example, lets pick your morning coffee routine. I will for sure trigger some, but hear me out 😬 Perhaps you order an XL coffee/mocha with 2 pumps this, 1 inch of that, etc etc. Maybe it adds up to an extra 400 calories every morning or a lot of sugar.
*
Maybe you start there by editing your coffee. Once you have that dialed in, you move on to the next thing. By now your new coffee routine (and overall healthier morning beverage) is a new HABIT.
*
You need to give yourself time to succeed with one new lifestyle change before you implement a bunch at once. The biggest thing? JUST GET STARTED. You don't want to look back realizing you keep saying you will and you don't.

Start small. The small things become the BIG things.
