I am grateful for the challenges in my life

Here is a great message you can share with family and friends to encourage them to embrace and be grateful for the obstacles each of us face on a daily basis. Living the black belt lifestyle is about learning to say “Bring it on!” when presented with a challenge. We know that when we approach life this way we are exercising the tenet of indomitable spirit; one of the key virtues developed through training in the martial arts. A Black Belt with an indomitable spirit doesn't need a pep talk or a protein shake; his or her strength comes from within!

“Both abundance and lack exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities. It is always our conscious choice which secret garden we will tend… when we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that’s present — love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature and personal pursuits that bring us pleasure — the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience Heaven on earth.”

An Attitude of Gratitude

Many of us will celebrate Thanksgiving this month by sharing and giving thanks with our family and friends. What would it be like to feel the joy and gratitude of Thanksgiving on a daily basis?

What are you most grateful for? Gratitude is an attitude. You too can develop an attitude of gratitude. Is the glass half full or half empty? For someone dying of thirst the glass will be half full. How many of us take the glass for granted and never give thanks?

Some of you will be thinking, oh but you don’t know how difficult it is for me. There are always things to be grateful for.

How do you view events in your life?

Do you have trouble at work? Ask someone who lost their job and they will tell you to be grateful you have a job.

Are you having challenges with your children? Ask someone who has a sick child, what is important.

Are you having challenges with your health? Are you breathing? Ask the person who has just lost someone close to them and they will tell you be grateful you are alive.

The magic of gratitude is the more thanks you give the more you will receive to be thankful for. Remember whatever you focus on expands. Our thoughts create our reality. What are you thinking?

Practice gratitude on a daily basis. That’s living the black belt lifestyle! I want to end this message by expressing my gratitude to my teachers, mentors, family, friends and students who have and continue to add so much value to my life on a daily basis.

Martial artists develop strong bodies through their training but the ultimate goal is to master one’s own mind. This allows you to remain centered regardless of circumstance. Here is a great example. Take a minute to reflect on it and rate your mental strength on a scale of 1-10. Don’t be hard on yourself. Living the black belt lifestyle is a disciplined daily effort to make improvements to one’s attitude, behavior and character.

Mentally Strong People Don’t Worry about the Things They Can’t Change

The Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr reads, “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” In case you don’t already know, Mr. Niebuhr was an exceptionally strong person who used his natural mental strength to lead a highly successful life as a theologian, among other things. He knew exactly what he was talking about here.

Mentally strong people don’t waste time complaining about traffic jams or lost luggage because they know these are things they can’t control. Instead, they focus on the things they can control, and they realize that sometimes, the only thing you can control in certain situations is your own attitude.

Live and share the black belt lifestyle by sharing this message with your friends, family and associates.
