My Sparrow 16 Sailboats, and others

My 3rd Sparrow project. Spent the summer cleaning it up and putting a new trailer under it. Patched a few scrapes on the hull and applied 3 coats of new gel-coat. Re gel coating is a new experience so the learning curve is steep. Plan to have it sit under cover over the winter and go to work on it some more next spring.

This is a 1980 Sparrow 16, hull #66. Have cleaned it up and sailed it on Lake Havasu, Arizona and now American Lake in Lakewood Washington. I recently acquired another Sparrow project so this one will be for sale.

Just added a 3rd Sparrow 16 project to my project profile. This one lived in Mesa Arizona for the last ten years and has not been in the water for at least that long. The trailer will need to be replaced but the hull is almost perfect. Will be towing it home to Washington for the clean up and refit.

At home with the Sparrow project. Replaced all of the halyards, added new turnbuckles and raised sail in the driveway. Sails are in great shape. This is hull #22 and has not been on the water for over 30 years. Plan to put up for sale soon.

The cleanup of the Sparrow project is done and it is ready to haul back home to Washington. Been a fun winter project. Will do a sea trial on American Lake and then put her up for sale.

The clean up project on this Sparrow 16 is almost done. Plan to raise the mast and check the rigging next.

01/04/2022

New hatches completed out of scrap plywood on the Sparrow # 2 project. Sealed them with epoxy. Will teak oil the rest of the wood pieces.

Almost done with the interior clean up. Scrubbed with bleach after hosing out the interior, then applied 2 coats of interprotect 2000e. Could add a 3rd coat eventually. Cut new hatch covers out of some scrap plywood.

The cleanup continues on the Sparrow #2 project. The interior was almost black from mold as this little guy has sat in a driveway for 30 years. Have scrubbed with 30 Seconds Outdoor Cleaner with more to go. Can only take the fumes for short bursts so it is a long process.

Fabricated a replacement motor mount base out of 1 1/2 " starboard using the old rotten one as a pattern. Works well.
