BON VOAYGE, BARRE

Barre was the final class held at Prospect Fitness Studio, and, cosmically, the very first class we ever did there on July 1, 2019.

There was nothing quite like the Saturday morning barre vibe; it was hands down the most invigorating way to start the weekend, and if you stayed for Zumba/CRR, you were really treating yourself.

Barre was also some of the most slept-on cross training for sports like snowmobiling, skiing, and downhill mountain biking. It started off as a bit of a sleeper class, but wound of being one of the more challenging classes in the line-up.

Although this marks the end of class send-offs, there’s still so much to say about that last day in the studio. This won’t be the last you hear from Prospect!

HIIT’S BEEN REAL

Friday, the final bell rang on the down and dirty 30-minute wonder: HIIT It & Quit It.

HIIT was a Prospect original that became a cult classic. It was the perfect blend of intensity, cardio, strength, and intervals, making it the most efficient class on the roster, and the highlight of our week. It’s no mystery why it was voted Best Class at the 2024 Prospies.

All hail the Heisman. Out of all the moves on the exercise menu, it was one that never got old and could make you feel like a D1 athlete, if only for 60 second.

THE SMOKE SHOWS: MUSCLE & FLOW AND CARDIO RHYTHM REMIX

Wednesdays were an anchor thanks to these two Prospect originals.

Muscle and Flow provided strength and flexibility to those unfamiliar with both, becoming one of the most well-attended class throughout the seasons. It served as a placeholder and introduction of sorts to classes like Snow Sports and Bootcamp. The vibes were always immaculate; it was one of those workouts where you could feel everyone’s excitement to be there.

CRR was a bit newer but fit in perfectly with the rest of the roster. Founded by Tina and built off the foundations of other classes like barre, Zumba, and Strong, it fit the bill of ass-kicking good time that people grew to expect from Prospect.

Luckily, Tina will continue offering CRR at the Wallace Wellness Center! If you love her, love Prospect as much as you claim to, you will make it a habit of driving an extra few miles to experience her beautiful energy.

SO LONG, STRONG

It may not have been a crowd favorite, but it was the most effective, impactful class at Prospect that a dedicated few mastered, and everyone should have experienced at least once in their lifetime.

I am grateful to those who pushed past the initial chaos of the first class to see Strong for what it truly was: a fast-paced, game changer of class that pushed you beyond your limits, making you feel like a true athlete.

(If you got your ass handed to you in another Prospect class, it was probably thanks to moves borrowed from Strong.)

Thank you to the core group who, like me, couldn’t get enough of Strong, and reaped its unparalleled cross training benefits.

And congratulations to Joe Hill, the Strong Athlete of the Quinquennium.

FAREWELL PILATES

The underdog class. The class I expected to only hold interest for about two weeks ended up being a source of peaceful preparation for the week ahead.

Now that you know you deserve it, please, please continue the practice of holding space for introspection, gratitude, and appreciation for all the things you are.

THE LAST BIG STEPS 🐾

It’s here. The final week.

At the risk of losing sight of the big picture—or worse yet, losing your attention—I’ll keep this brief:

The humble rise (and retirement) of a Zumba instructor 🐛🦋

One could say that Zumba started it all but if you dig deeper, you’ll find that it really started at Claudia Laskey’s studio on Main Street in uptown Kellogg.

After that, it was over a decade doing tap and ballet with Ms. Joni, alongside legends like Liz Hegbloom and Megan Bircher.

Around that time, it was also the occasional living room freestyle choreographed to the latest volume of NOW! That’s What I Call Music in front of the picture window, captured on a kids’ camcorder and preserved on VHS.

Later it would be a TouchTunes takeover at Eddie Joe’s, burpees on the buddy bar, and strutting to the NSFW music video of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”.

Eventually, it would be Courtney Roeller’s Zumba class in the steelworkers hall with Sarah Murphy and a solo cup, an introduction to the Leather Gines, and, of course, the emergence of Ms. Tina.

Couple that with an invite from Lexi Demming to the big city for a life-altering class by the ICONIC Megan Gasper…

Finally, to bring it full circle, a return uptown to the space above SV Fitness adjacent to what? You guessed it: Ms. Claudia’s old studio. The rest as they say is history…

Everything you see was built by people who, at one point, were afraid to look stupid in front of people. Prospect wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for a little embarrassment and a touch of discomfort. Thanks for putting yourselves out there ♥️

The summer of Cardio Rhythm Remix 💿

You will not find a spicer, more balanced blend of a secret sauce than that of Ms. Tina’s rhythm-led power hour.

And with that, we say namaste to yoga at Prospect ✌️

Thank you Emma and yogis for bringing the dream of Prospect being a full-service fitness studio to life. You held it down as a yoga hub and made the practice accessible to the Valley.

Fear not, peaceful warriors and downward facing dogs, Emma will continue to offer yoga at the Wallace Wellness Center! She has also extended an invite to a certain coach to do a pop-up barre or Pilates class in the future…
