By Coach Eddie Aguiar
Today, our hearts are broken, and the world feels a little dimmer without the light of Jean Ramirez. He was more than just a player for the Texas Blackhawks Baseball Club in the Texas Showcase League; he was a force of nature, a source of relentless, pure energy that uplifted every single person around him.
There was, and I can say this with absolute certainty, only one Jean Ramirez. Every single person who had the privilege of knowing him will agree: we never saw him without a smile. It wasn't just a polite gesture; it was genuine, infectious, and constant. Whether we were down three runs in the ninth or celebrating a victory, Jean was there, picking up his teammates, reminding everyone what a gift it was to be on that field. It was truly great to be around him. He had a great story and an even greater heart.
But that heartbreak, that great story, reminds us that even the people who shine the brightest can be fighting a silent battle. As a coach, and as a friend, I learned how to identify when someone is going through a difficult time—but sometimes, we don't realize the depth of the pain until it’s too late. The truth is, Jean’s story is a heartbreaking reminder to all of us.
If you know someone struggling, anyone who needs a moment of your time or a listening ear—please, don’t hesitate to intervene. Don’t hesitate. It’s better to be safe than sorry. We have to look out for each other, fiercely and constantly, just like Jean looked out for his team. Let his memory be the catalyst for us to be more present, more observant, and more courageous in extending help.
We miss you terribly, Jean. We miss that smile, that energy, and the constant reminder that baseball is a game of joy.
Luv You
Miss You
Jean
Coach Eddie Aguiar
PS: I hope you’re training those Angels, teaching them how to play baseball in heaven with that famous Ramirez smile.
