Stretch occurs in the load. Once we launch, everything has to go together. If it doesn’t, there’s slack in the system. Slack is was creates a delay in the barrel being delivered and can make timing a nightmare. A great way for a hitter to feel it and for us as coaches to see it is having them swing an . You can actually see on camera when the barrel starts to accelerate and can make adjustments from there to launch more efficiently

Being “perfect-perfect” in this game doesn’t come very often. It’s a round bat trying to hit a round ball with many other variables involved.
The goal with each hitter that I work with is for the swing to be efficient enough to miss-hit balls and still do DAMAGE!

Understanding who you are as a hitter and what you need for YOUR swing to work is extremely important. But from there, you have to know how to translate that. Allowing the posterior chain to get engaged through the load can really help some hitters be more engaged and controlled through the forward move and turn.

Prioritizing path and connection when doing drill work is super important. By using a heavy bat combined with split grip, it eliminates the hands and just focuses on how efficient of a path we can create.

Football season is finally here, but as hitters we have to stop tackling the baseball with our swing. 🏈⚾️
Here’s what I mean.
If our body gets out of control going forward, typically our upper body will over travel and our chest will end up in front of our front leg. When this happens in the swing it creates less space between us and the baseball (tackling the baseball). As hitters, we have to control the forward move and stay behind our front side so we can rotate behind contact. We don’t want to crash into contact and “tackle” the baseball, we want to land in a good launch position and maintain our spacing as we rotate behind contact.

EFFORTLESS & FREE
A lot of the times when the upper body is engaged but relaxed the barrel turn happens naturally. It’s usually when the effort gets applied from the upper body that the arms and shoulders tighten up. Now we get out of sequence, move slower and lose a lot of direction or time in the zone.

Being able to launch together is a big key to consistent timing and being able to handle high velocity. The stretch and separation happen during the load, but once it’s time to step on the gas, everything has got to go!

ROOM FOR ERROR!
If a hitter has to be perfect-perfect, or close to it to have success then their odds for consistent success are low. This game is way too hard with way too many variables to always have to be “perfect.”
The more time your barrel spends in the zone the more “room for error” you’ll have when it comes to timing.
“Get in the way of the ball” as early as possible and “stay in the way of it” as long as possible.

Translating feels from one drill to another can be challenging. That’s why I love adding the Paola Rovelo bat because it helps bridge the gap without a hitter having to think about it. They can move on to the next thought and the bat will tell them immediately if they moved properly!

BIG FELLAS!!! This one is for you. You do not need to try to hit the ball harder. You need to hit the ball in the air. The goal is to take the hard contact that you naturally produce and combine that with good ball flight. If you try to add too much effort or try to manipulate ball flight with your body, you’re going to be a ground ball merchant. Let’s get away from high effort, pull side rollovers and start launching the ball the right way. We have to be in control of our body so that we can control our barrel. If we can control our barrel, we will be more consistent with controlling our contact point and our ball flight.
