“The Kona Beekeeper Legacy Project” is OPEN!
I am immensely proud of what I created, with the help of many great partners along the way.

Come and see the exhibit, watch the documentary , and experience the live hive at society
April - July
Tuesday -Saturday 10am-2pm

The first month of the exhibit has been a great success! So far we have hosted:
Walk-in Visitors: 236
Students: 169
Field Trip Chaperones: 37
Trained Docents: 8

Here is one review that made my day:

“I was naturally curious about the exhibit, but not expecting my literal AWE at the immense information you have provided, my sudden proactive interest to email a few old friends who keep bees but who haven’t heard from me in years, to now watch Queen Bee YouTube’s, and as a docent , to help people who enter the exhibit LOVE it! I don’t have to help them love it, though; each person finds their own way. For some it is the live bees and finding the queen. For some it is the art. For some it is the Talk Story. And for many, it is the documentary introducing the individual people and their dedication and love of bee keeping.

In sum, GREAT JOB Leandra! I personally am getting to walk away with a LOT more shock and awe around bees.”

🥹🐝

Mahalo , Ku’ulani Aulid, all the docents, and excited students and visitors, and more!

Where do you think the exhibit should tour to next?

✨ Opening Week! ✨

After nine months of research, interviews, fundraising, filming, and lots of learning, I’m proud to share The Kona Beekeeper Legacy Project with you. This project has been a deep dive into Hawai‘i Island’s agricultural history, my own family heritage, and a first step into community action work.

It has been a risky and rewarding journey—one that’s made me feel more connected to the beekeepers who raised me, and my island home. This project has shown me the grit, innovation, and heart that goes into this industry.

Now, I get to share it all with YOU! 🐝🍯

Come check out:
- museum exhibit
- original documentary shot by
- field trip program
- archived history

If you’re on island, I’d love for you to stop by, bring your kids’ school, and help us celebrate this piece of local history. It’s a four-month exhibit, and I can’t wait to share it with you! 💛

I am so proud to be bringing a Le’ola Wellness program to my high school alma mater, !
Together, with the support of , we are increasing the nutrition, local foods, and sustainability of their student food program.

After a decade+ of bringing nutrition education to employees in the Bay Area, it is so gratifying to bring that skill-set back to my hometown and the kids of Hawaii.

Leandra worked in the snack shop during her Parker School days and through this project is now helping bring in more locally sourced, environmentally sustainable, real food options to help nourish and energize Parker students.

We're so grateful to our talented for giving back and to the Hartwell & Rebecca Carter Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation for making this collaboration possible!

One of the most memorable parts of my travels in Central and South America was the food. So rich, flavorful and unique in each country.

I created this recipe in homage to Latinx Heritage month, featuring the El Salvadorian favorite -- Pupusa!
(*With a healthy Fitbit spin, of course.)

Homemade pupusas are within reach! Simple to make, delicious to eat, and easy to adapt. Make a double batch, because these babies freeze well and make a fantastic quick meal in a pinch.

Photos by the talented Andrew Richard Hara

Enjoy Pupusas, the national dish of El Salvador, in your home kitchen. Filled with black beans and cheese and topped with a traditional Curtido slaw, these hearty corn cakes will become a favorite in your family.
