This last week has been one for the books! I started volunteering my time to a great organization about 6 years ago. At that time, my look at veterans was totally different compared to what it is now! The seriousness of what they have to go through on a daily basis is really heart breaking. Some do and some dont. Im not saying all veterans do but most struggle but you wouldnt know they do.
If you havent heard of Waterfowlers for Warriors, I recommend you take a look or ask about it! We have veterans that come from all over to come spend 4-5 days for our anual Duck Camp we put on every year. We set up hunts every day with a captain who also volunteers their time to take these vets out and enjoy the outdoors wether they get birds or not, the joy of just watching these men and women enjoy being in the outdoors is the least we can do.
These men and women past, present and future are fighting for our freedom to be able to do what we are able to do now. I cant thank them enough for fighting for us.
The friendships I have built from this organization is unbelieveable! These men and women have become family to me. The brotherhood and sisterhood of all branches coming together to spend a few days is priceless. Listening to stories and listening to them joke around with each other because they served in a different branch is just something you dont get to hear or see every day!
I have spent alot of time with these vets and I see the struggle in some. The real life situations of su***de in vets is real. Su***de was 22 a day in vets! It has now reached 44 a day! 44! Please, I ask you, reach out and check on your people! It doesnt matter if they are a veteran or not. Everybody struggles and everyone needs to be checked on!
