Pioneer Gun Club

Pioneer Gun Club Pioneer Gun Club was established in 1940 as a place where founding members could have a self-regulated location for firearm practice. A hunting club we are not.

In the 1980s, PGC expanded to a secondary location for not only pistol, but also shot gun, rifle, and archery. Pioneer Gun Club (PGC) was formed in the far eastern area of Kansas City, MO in 1940. The area, then rural countryside, allowed the founding members to have a self regulated place to safely fire their fi****ms for practice, relaxation and personal enjoyment. At the same location since its

initial inception, Pioneer has had the distinction of never having a fi****ms related injury accident. The membership of Pioneer is made up of the most incredible mix of men and women that could be imagined. Literally every profession is represented in our membership. Every age group from pre-teen youths to retirees is represented. While the vast majority of our members are located in the Kansas City metropolitan area, many members reside in the rural and out-state areas. Several members live in other states. Pioneer is a Sport Shooting Club. Sometimes the uninitiated do not distinguish between a hunting club and a shooting club. In fact, since its inception, Pioneer property has been declared as a game preserve. As a sport shooting club, our primary target is a paper one. It is stapled onto Celotex insulation boards on wood frames. The shots strike the large dirt embankments after passing through the paper targets. The dirt embankments are constructed over twenty feet tall and are over fifty feet thick at the base. No small-arms projectile ever created has the most remote possibility to pass through them. Most of the firing is done from a seated position at a concrete shooting bench or table. For some sports, shooters are required to sit, kneel, or lay prone in a given fashion when shooting. With some exceptions, other targets are used. Shotgun shooters are permitted to shoot at clay pigeons thrown in the air by an electric device.

The Battles of Lexington and Concord
At sunrise on April 19, 1775 about 77 colonial minutemen confronted roughly 700 British soldiers on Lexington Green. The first shots were fired—later called the "shot heard 'round the world"! The skirmish resulted in 8 colonial deaths and 10 wounded, while only one British soldier was injured. The outnumbered militia quickly retreated, allowing the British to continue toward Concord.
