Tryouts are right around the corner! Below we will try and answer a lot of questions we get for those interested in coming to tryouts. If you are new to us, hopefully this will help tell you a little about us. There's a ton of options for athletes these days, so it's important that you find the right fit!
Where do we practice?
We go to the Highlands on Wednesdays ( currently ) as it allows us to get ALL our teams in during the 5-9pm time frame. It helps with carpooling, collaboration, and it's nice for the club to be together at the same time, same place. On weekends we are in the St. Clairsville area and at times surrounding high schools.
How many people do you place on a team?
We try to keep teams at 8-10 people. There may be times that becomes higher, but it is not the norm.
Will I know what team I am on and what coach I have right away?
Maybe... each year for us is different. We have coaches who sometimes move up through the years with age groups and coaches who stay at specific age groups. We offer regional and American teams, and travel and regional. If you are offered a letter and want to know more about your placement, CALL us and we will give you all the information we have. Don't turn your often down because you have questions. Give us a call first!
Why do you select teams this way?
Two hours of tryouts just isn't enough time to truly see what the best combination is for teams. Players may get a travel letter with their coach, a regional or travel age group letter, or an age group letter. If teams are not split at tryouts, we split them during the first two weeks of practice. So much happens from tryouts to club season. Kids play an entire school season, sometimes switching positions and showing exceptional growth. We want to make the best teams possible, and don't want to rush the process.
Do you have a wait list?
Yes! we have alternates and a wait list. We encourage players to take the alternate spot if they really want to play at our club. Many times these players end up with playtime, sometimes they even become full team members. The situation varies by team and year, but we always suggest asking questions if you get this letter!
What makes your club different?
That answer can depend on who you ask. We aren't perfect, but we sure do try. We want kids to really learn the game and feel like they aren't just a number on a paper. We believe in a quality schedule that still allows kids to be multi-sport athletes if they desire. If you want to move on and play in college, we will get you to a point where you are running college level offenses and know multiple defenses. If you want to play till your 18 strictly because you love the game? We are here for that too! We believe in cross training as much as possible, and encourage overlap with other coaches and teams and positions. Club should be a core memory, and one that brings you happiness. We send out surveys at the end of each season and truly read them and try to implement new things each year to keep making a season with us worth the cost it is to play!
If you have questions, our information is at the end of the flier. We have a ton of information on our website as well!
Hope to see you all this July and lets go GOLD!
