The highs and lows of kart racing. The night started out really strong by qualifying 2nd out of 20 karts. I’m not sure what we need to do to set quick time but it seems one of Ashton’s strengths is definitely laying down a solid qualifying lap!

Ashton started on the pole in his heat race and lead 4 of the 6 lap race ultimately finishing 2nd. He did a great job but we just didn’t have the pace to hold on for the win.

We rolled off 5th for the A Main. Dad decided to change the gearing on the kart to help find the speed we were missing in the heat race. Ashton was racing hard but made a mistake causing him to spin while running 4th. Unfortunately not all the karts were able to avoid him stopped right in the racing line. Ashton took the hit to the right front of the kart causing significant damage and ending our race before it really even got going. We’ll get the kart torn apart and come up with a plan to get parts replaced but unfortunately we likely won’t be racing at all this coming week.

Looking forward to some cooler weather and kart racing this Saturday? So are we!

Millbridge Speedway
On track at 5:30

We went racing at Millbridge this past Saturday. Ashton had a very early pill draw which ment he would be one of the first karts to hit the track to make his qualifying laps and that’s generally a disadvantage.

After the 24 kart field completed qualifying Ashton wound up P3 missing quick time by .006 seconds. Yes, the top 3 karts were that close in qualifying, which is pretty incredible.

Dad/Crew Chief screwed up the gear change for his heat race which didn’t really give Ashton the best chance to win the 6 lap dash. He started P1 and finished P2. This would lock us into the A Main starting P6.

From the drop of the green to the checkered Ashton steadily fell back through the field. He got put into a couple of bad spots by a kart and had to react quickly to keep from being wrecked. (We feel your pain Tanner Wilson.) At the end of the race Ashton wound up P8.

We’ll regroup, watch some film and look at the data so do our best to be better prepared for the next race! Thanks to everyone who keep us motoring!

Millbridge Speedway later today but first some Steelers flag football!

On track action starts at 5:30! Be there!

It’s not very often that we are racing on Saturday but after a clean Tuesday night last week we trecked back to Millbridge Speedway last night.

Overall Ashton had another good night. After an early pill draw he managed to hang on to qualify P12 out 27 karts.

He started third in his heat and quickly found himself challenging for the lead but wasn’t able to cleanly complete the pass. He’d finish the six lap heat race in P3, locking him into the A main.

After a gear change for the A main Ashton started to move forward right away from his P12 starting position. After lap 1 he had already moved into the sixth position. He attempted to pass two karts in the same corner by taking them 3 wide in the middle. The hole closed up a bit and Ashton spun himself, bringing out the only yellow flag of the race. Restarting from the back of the pack hurt the opportunity for a top 5 finish but in the final handful of laps Ashton was able to earn an eight place finish and was trying to pass for seventh place.

Had another good Tuesday night at the Bridge. Ashton qualified P3 out of 18 young racers. He followed that up by finishing P2 in his heat which locked him into the A main starting in the 6th position.

Ashton drove a decent race and at one point was passing for third when things got crazy. The entire field was bunched up with karts and their young pilots somehow (mostly) avoiding disaster. At the end of the race Ashton crossed the line in sixth position.
