Flathead Valley Hockey Association (FVHA) is a non-profit organization established in January 2007. The organization was formed for the purpose of creating, organizing, administering and managing youth hockey programs at the Woodland Ice Center. FVHA operates entirely on volunteer efforts. Flathead Valley Hockey Association also owns the ice skating rink and manages the community skate center located at Woodland Park. Woodland Ice Center is open to the public for public skate, men’s and women’s adult hockey programs, school and group events as well as the youth hockey program. In 2007 Steve and Genia Tartaglino with Tony Clayton purchased a used portable, refrigerated ice rink system package and established FVHA. FVHA approached the City of Kalispell requesting assistance in locating a suitable site for the rink. The city offered the old pool site at Woodland Park. By using the existing old pool buildings (with some renovation) as the front desk, locker rooms, rest rooms and concession stand FVHA was able to expand the usefulness of a city-owned asset and the city was able to support a local non-profit organization in making the rink available to the entire community. FVHA maintains the rink and the equipment to maintain the ice. Funds to pay for the rink, maintenance and utilities for the rink come from a combination of fees for ice time and various program charges. In order to keep fees low for the general community and the youth hockey association members FVHA has a number of fundraising programs including raffles and selling advertising on the boards surrounding the rink. Considerable community donations made the establishment of the rink possible and program expansions feasible. The members of FVHA are proud of our accomplishments and happy to be able to offer the ice skating rink to the community for family-oriented, winter fun.
