Nov 2021 > Nov 2020 > the week I found out I was pregnant (June 2021)

I will forever be grateful that I spent 2020 and a good part of 2021 focusing on the mental part of physical health so that I can enjoy the process of watching my body become a home to a little human. If I’m being honest, I used to be terrified what pregnancy might do to my body but now I’m so damn proud of the female body 💥 The first 2 photos are taken on the same day, but one year apart. It’s not your “traditional transformation” but boy oh boy is the transformation huge on the inside, and maybe a little different on the outside 😜💪🏼🏋🏼‍♀️

If I can encourage anyone in one thing - your mental health, your brain, is the most important muscle we MUST train FIRST in fitness, it is also the hardest muscle to retrain when it’s been fed and told the wrong things about fitness & health. Fitness & health aren’t measured by a size, BMI, or by the scale, it’s measured by how well your body is functioning, which includes your brain, your heart, and your body.

I said it....

If you have been totally consumed by what you eat & moving your body that it evokes fear and stress when you “fall off track” or miss a day... then I want to you to hear me that...

👏🏻 THERE’S MORE TO LIFE THAN JUST DIET & EXERCISE 👏🏻

Can we all agree our bodies are magical ✨and we waste to much time & thought around what we look like — which makes us resent our body. It’s a vicious cycle.

I choose to move my body because I can, because it’s a gift. I choose to live a balanced lifestyle so that I can enjoy alllll that life has to offer and I also choose when to rest so that my body will continue to serve me well 🌿

I’ve always used the gym to help manage stress. Work stress? Gym. Relationship stress? Gym. Big decision to make? Gym.

But what if the gym is causing your stress.... Maybe it’s because you aren’t getting a good lift, or you aren’t seeing the progress you want, or it’s taking time away from friends & family, or your bored with your workouts..... In any fitness journey, your mindset MATTERS most. And if the gym is stressing you out, rest, sweet friend 🧡

Your body needs time to heal and the best way to do that is through rest. Don’t feel guilty for taking a day “off” think of it as another day and step in your fitness journey. Flip the script. You don’t have to train 7 days a week to see a difference... and chances are you’ll hit your burn out before you hit your goals.

If you’re serious about your goals, you have to get serious about rest!

Something I’ve learned along the way in my health journey is that the 👏🏻process👏🏻MATTERS 👏🏻

If you are hating your workouts, you’re only eating 1200 calories & starving, you dread your weigh ins, foods are labeled as “good” and “bad”, you’re left with guilt if you didn’t make it to the gym or get 10,000 steps..... THIS IS NOT SUSTAINABLE. Guilt & shame are not part of the health game.

I agree, progress is a process. But if you aren’t loving your process, you won’t enjoy your progress either.

I am a huge advocate for a BALANCED LIFESTYLE. The best way to know if it’s a lifestyle is that you can see yourself continuing to do what you’re doing years from NOW.

Learning this by experience has been one of the most freeing & best things for my mental & physical health. EVER.

We all start somewhere ✨ 2019 wasn’t my starting point, but it was definitely my turning point.

Here’s what I’ve learned:
- Take the picture... who cares who’s in the locker room with you.

- Be your own motivation. Do it for yourself everyday. When/if that goes away, take a step back and reconnect with yourself.

- Rest. You don’t need to be lifting weights & doing cardio everyday to see a difference. Give your body time to heal on designated rest days.

- Stop comparing. Stop comparing your chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 17. YOU ARE DOING GREAT.

- Don’t go alone. Get friends or family around you who encourage you, pump you up, and celebrate your wins, and love you at your lows.
(If you don’t have these people in your life, I am happy to be your cheerleader!)

- Just start. If you don’t know where you’re going or how to get there, start anyways.

- Celebrate every win. A new PR, clothes that fit differently, progress pictures, a compliment from a stranger. Celebrate yourself!

- And finally, don’t be afraid to ask for help from a trained professional. If you need help on your journey to change, whatever journey that is, (whether that’s physical, mental, spiritual, or emotional, it’s not weak to ask for help!

So here’s me, taking my own advice, and celebrating some progress! Let me know how you are proud of yourself below 🎉
