I started “the Gales” with my friends to create an event I would have wanted to attend when I was just getting started.
Over 14 years of organizing the Gales, I strove for a fun, challenging event where we could coach students to use their skills in conditions. I had a lot of fun running this event. I really enjoyed coaching and organizing it.I have a lot of incredible memories of beautiful scenery, great conditions and students reaching for that next rung on their development ladder.

A lot has changed for me in those 14 years. It’s time to pass that sacred flame on to new people. I would like to officially pass the “stoke” torch to Top Turn Media and Benjamin Fontenot in the hopes that paddlers who would like to learn to paddle and thrive in lumpy water on the Great Lakes can continue to do that. I hope you’ll all sign up for the Top Turn Rough Water Rock’em weekend in Two Harbors Minnesota. November 9-10 2024

Heads up to those that come to K College pool sessions:

1. There was a problem with my event registration for this Sunday. i have resolved that problem. You should be able to register now!
2. Rebecca Merz is helping me administrate this session in my absence. I will be available remote to answer questions etc, but Rebecca will be on site. !

Some beautiful views from a drone and Dan Terpstra's giant lens from shore. South Haven has been a place I think about often. It's been a refuge in dark times. I've been lost there and I've been found there. My wife, my kids and even Indy have found that same sense of connection with the Great Lakes here. I've made some really good friends with board surfers, SUP surfers, kite boarders and even some kayakers all come to touch that sacred flame and keep it stoked.

We will be offering rolling, rescues, and skills lessons, as well as just pool time. You MUST pre-register. As the session will only occur if the minimum number of participants has been met (6). All Pool Sessions are from 7-9 PM.
