Follow up to my post from last weekend about the weird discrepancy I was getting with HR data. I changed the battery this week and other than the one spike early in my run, HR strap provided consistent info.

For this current block of training I’ve been keeping my long runs at my MAF (141 BPM). This picture shows my splits from todays run. You can see that each lap gets progressively slower while maintaining the same average HR. This method of training is great for maintenance blocks or when building endurance. I’m a big believer that 80% of your miles should be at this intensity.

Another great accomplishment from one of my athletes! Kyle has been training the last several months in preparation for a Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim adventure at the Grand Canyon and he killed it! He put in a lot of long weekend runs with some serious elevation gain. One of the benefits of 1:1 coaching is a fully customized plan catered to any event and unlimited communication with me. I can’t wait to get him training for his next adventure!

I had a great time at the 2021 ! Training didn’t go as planned as I dealt with an injury but felt I was in good enough shape to make an attempt. It’s been 11 years since I’ve run a road marathon and I set a new PR 😎

This has been a long time coming. I grew up in the Auburn area and had never heard of the . I had a neighbor who rode the Tevis Cup but I wasn’t aware that people ran it. In my late 20’s I got into endurance sports and eventually learned about ultras. 10 years ago I told myself I’d do States and made it my goal to qualify before the age of 40. I beat that goal by 2.5 years. I know my odds are slim but just being in the lottery is a dream come true.

I didn’t really want to run today. After missing 5 days of training because of work last week/weekend, including my long run, I’ve been playing catch up this week. I wasn’t feeling it today but forced myself outside to get a few miles in. I decided to start a on the base. With no logistic prep, it proved challenging. I bonked in the last few miles because I wasn’t fueled properly. Still learning after all these years. Enjoyed the run.
