If you constantly judge the success of an experience based on perfection, you’re in for a miserable time.

Last weekend was far from perfection for me, but s**t I had good time. I felt so much gratitude to be back in one of my favourite places, feeling the fittest I’ve been in 3 years with the opportunity to race 3.8/180/42.

The Port Mac Skinny
Kona ✅

Swim was easy 3rd Ager on the bike

Bike - raced very conservative - still suffered a bit between 120-150k but started the run feeling great.

Overdid nutrition on the Bike - will need to refine before Kona got extremely bloated. Luckily recognised this early and the last 50k of Bike I had water only. Doing this sorted out my nutrition issues by T2. Luckily I had hydrated well so was able to give the stomach a rest and then go back to nutrition plan for the run.

Run pretty good 28ks
Went through 10 in 39:30
20 in 1:21
Blew out from 28k
Whilst I probably still need more consistency to hold form for 3 hours, I am pretty sure my shoe choice was poor. Went a little too light with not enough support and paid the price in the back-end. This contributed to fatigue.

Some pretty simple issues to fix and learn from. Coupled with another 6 months of consistency I hope to be competitive in Kona. I know the performance from Sunday won’t be good enough but am also realistic about where I was at.

Thanks to Tarryn Whitmore for some very smart programming getting me back to within 15min of my best in Port. I have to stay I enjoyed every minute of the process prepping for this and I am looking forward to getting going again in a few week.

Cheers,

Luke.

The other 2 massive PBs

Yesterday
Jono Goerlach took the win in the PT5 World Cup race in Devonport.

The formula is not rocket science
- All have been consistent over at least 12 months and nail the basics
Our programming is focussed on
- Simplicity
- Patience
- Sport Specific Strength
- Developing form under duress
- Adequate Sleep

If you’re interested in what we have to offer please feel free to PM. I specialise in specific programming around Work and Family. Achieving results obviously takes a level of commitment and our style is not for everyone. However it works. If you are ready to roll up the sleeves and do the work, feel free to get in touch.

2017... Be a doer. Ignore the critics, the cynics, the arm chair experts.

Never fear failure, it's the quickest path to progression. Be present. Be humble. Perfection isn't real, accept that.

Roll up the sleeves, let's get dirty.

2 Starters 2 podiums today in Ballarat. Well done Tarryn Whitmore (1st 35-39) and Sean de Morton (2nd 35-39 by 14sec) (and a PB over the distance).

Sean and I have been working together since the end of October and with a few changes to his training and race tactics, a confirmation we are on the right track. Back to work next week :)

A lesson in pacing. Amazing to watch 25 laps of brilliance on the track last night at the . A class effort from Patrick Tiernan in his first go at this distance on the track. It doesn't matter what discipline or distance your distance event is (or your ability), dosing your effort to finish harder than you started is the only way to achieve your best. These track guys and girls are absolute masters at it.
