As you can see the smile on my face was caused by the engines finally getting Commissioned after 180 days. If all would have went right, we should have had them commissioned 3 months ago.

I didn’t let you know the issues we had once we started to 3-month saga to
commission the engines. In a very abbreviated form – both installed and looking fantastic until we took out for first run – got starboard engine to 1800 rpm and turbo blew outward – Cummins blamed turbo being installed incorrectly – I ordered another one and it blew for second time – so could not have been installed wrong – Cummins was involved with the local Cummins mechanic – they could not figure it out as turbo blew outward (turbo fans were in a million pieces outward which is the opposite the direction of the air intake) – Cummins could not figure it out – put a scope into valve area and saw rust on the 2 valve seats after we had her out 2 times – this is not right, can have rust if engines sit before
install but normally sluffs off after first run – that was the hint, we thought the
valves were not working correctly which caused the pressure to build and the relief of this pressure was out the turbos – so month and half later – had
aftercooler, head, and another turbo replaced - we took her out for test run

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get RPM’s up to 2500 which means we had to get
smaller props – had 28 x 30 and went to 28 x 28. Took 3 weeks to get those and that smile you see is the day we got the RPM’s up to 2500 which means we passed sea trail and engines have now been commissioned – WHAT A RIDE!!

Bottom line we got a lemon starboard engine – blame goes to Cummins quality control. Cummins did come through with replacement parts – still waiting for 2nd turbo reimbursement 5k that I bought – it just took Cummins so long to analyze and at one point they said they had no clue what was happening (did not make
me happy).

So Topshape is back in Charter condition – total refit of our engine room and she rides grrrreat- went from MAN 800 v8’s to Cummins QRS 11 750 straight electronic (big vibrations difference) – new SeaKeeper – pulse all new wiring etc.

Now hopefully just fishing stories – and I have areal good one on its way
