Geary County Fish & Game Association is holding a fundraiser to support our Youth Activities in 2026. Funds raised will go to support local High School Clays Trap Teams and other youth events throughout the year. This money helps buy ammo and practice targets for new shooters on 3 youth teams, targets for 2 Beginner's Trap Clinics each year, provides support for recognition events, and scholarships for sending kids to outdoor camps such as the Whitington Adventure Camp.
You can help by donating $20.00 and you may win this neat R***r!
Tickets are available at Sportsman's Acres Ranges near Milford Lake any time the range is open on weekends 12-4pm. Drawing will be held at our annual Wild Game Feed on 9 Feb 26.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL WOMEN ON TARGET EVENT!!!
On October 11th, the Geary County Fish and Game Association hosted Women on Target, an event sponsored by the National Rifle Association. Thirty-two women attended, traveling from locations across Kansas and Oklahoma—from Kansas City, KS, in the east to Newkirk, OK, in the west. Participants rotated through five hands-on stations: archery, rifle, pistol, black powder, and shotgun. Each offered a unique learning experience, with knowledgeable instructors guiding the way.
At the shotgun station, participants praised the clear and supportive instruction. The pistol station drew excitement for its wide variety of fi****ms, with one woman saying, “Thanks to the guys for helping me; I finally know which gun I want.” The rifle range was equally appreciated for its mix of targets and helpful coaching.
On the archery range, the experience was both educational and enjoyable. One participant noted how meaningful it was to have “women teaching women.” At the black powder station, attendees enjoyed learning the history of muzzleloaders and trying them out firsthand.
Overall, the event offered a welcoming environment for women to explore shooting sports, build skills, and gain confidence—all under the guidance of excellent instructors.
This is an annual event at GCF&GA so watch for it again next year!!

Junction City High School Clay Target Shooting Team
Did you know that Junction City High School has an authorized shooting sports activity that offers students a lifetime skill with training and competition enjoyed across Kansas by over 150 other schools? The JCHS Trap Team was approved in 2023 by the USD 475 School Board and has been competing since then with 3-4 student athletes on the team each year. The team has enjoyed good support in the community but would like to increase member numbers. Sponsors are ready and willing to help a growing team.
The JCHS Team is organized under the USA Clay Target League which had 53,250 registered athletes in 1,815 schools across the nation in 2024. Since the League was formed in 2008 there have been NO accidents or injuries during competition. The team competes at the local range, Sportsman’s Acres near Milford Lake, and is coached by trained volunteers from the Geary County Fish & Game Association. Weekly scores are reported to the League database for competition with other Kansas schools…..no travel is necessary during the regular season. Safety training is mandatory and experienced Range Safety Officers supervise each time the team shoots. No guns or ammunition are ever on school property.
Requirements to participate: JCHS student in good standing, weekly transportation to range, access to an appropriate 12 or 20 gauge shotgun and ammunition, eye/ear protection, and a commitment to attend weekly competitions.
Cost: $40.00 League registration fee, $25.00 Safety Training (one-time fee), $72.00 target fee, up to $150.00 ammunition cost (although ammo is usually provided at no cost through sponsors and grants).
Geary County Fish & Game Association has worked with a number of local school teams for the last 9 years and would like to see the JCHS Team grow.
