Wallowa County will always be one of my favorite places to be. There’s a beauty here that’s hard to put into words-matched only by the diversity of the landscape and the people who called this valley home. Stangel’s Bison has been a part of this for as long as I can remember, and every time they’re brought back up to The Slope, I could sit and watch them for hours. There’s something about seeing the herd against the mountains that makes you slow down and appreciate exactly where you are. With the smoke finally clearing in the mountains, coming back into the view, I’m feeling especially grateful for this while beautiful corner of Oregon and the community we get to share it with. It is a privilege to have access to the clean, wild waters of the Wild and Scenic section of the Snake River through Hells Canyon. This incredible place is more than a destination-it’s a landscape that provides recreation, education, livelihoods, and unforgettable experiences for everyone unfortunate to spend time here.
We are grateful for organizations like Greater Hells Canyon Council that continue to advocate for the protection in long-term health of this remarkable region their work helps create opportunities for important conversations around complex issues facing health and and what sustainability looks like for the land water wildlife, and community that depend on it.
For us at WWRE, these wild places make it possible to do what we love: create meaningful jobs, share knowledge of the River and it’s history, connect with the outdoors, and give our guest experiences they will carry with them long after they leave the canyon. Protecting places like Hells Canyon takes conversation, collaboration, and people who care. We encourage you to learn more, ask questions, get involved, and discover ways you can help ensure this extraordinary place remains wild for generations to come.
