The Huntersville Trail System is open and cleared for the 2026 riding season.

Thanks to the 13 TCTR Members that opened the trails this weekend. We cleared the trails of the dead-fall and replaced the broken or missing signposts.

The area next to the east trailhead was logged over the winter, but all of the trees within the trailhead area are still standing.

The MN DNR is taking comments for a Grant-In-Aid connector trail in Lake of the Woods county. This trail is ATV/OHM allowed. It is also 2 miles from the border to border trail, so will make a good ride on an adventure or dual sport bike.

Comments are open until Feb 16.

The webpage is: https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/input/mgmtplans/ohv/plans/plans.html

Here is the information from the page:

The DNR invites public review and written comments on a proposal by Roseau County and Lake of the Woods County to obtain grant-in-aid (GIA) funding for an off-highway vehicle (OHV) route that would establish a continuous connection between Roseau County's OHV trail system and the Koochiching County line. The GIA Program is a cost-sharing partnership between the DNR, a local government sponsor and a local club to fund the maintenance and development of OHV trails.

The proposed 58-mile route in Roseau and Lake of the Woods counties would use existing roads and trails that are currently open to OHV use. The proposed route includes Lake of the Woods County roads, segments along the bank-tops of county judicial ditch rights-of-way, and about one-half mile of private trail. The proposal would formally designate the route under the GIA program, linking existing roads and trail segments. The route would be open to all OHVs including all-terrain vehicles (ATV), off-road vehicles (ORV) and off-highway motorcycles (OHM).

Hello all, a post to let you know that the Huntersville OHM trails are open.

Keep an eye on the DNR website for updates.

Fifty-nine miles of OHM trail twists through Huntersville State Forest. Much of the trail is single-track, with some two-track and service road loops for beginning riders.

Contact your legislators immediately!

HF 81 is up for a floor vote this Thursday, March 13th, at 3:30pm. This is for the House (not the Senate). The Bill is the MN AMA District 23 ARMCA bill to lift the ban of sales on new youth bikes for MN.

68 votes are required for the bill to pass.
To find out who represents you, go to: https://www.gis.lcc.mn.gov/iMaps/districts/ and enter your address.

Details regarding how to send in comments:

Start the letter or the note stating: "I live in district 00X (fill in your district)."

Then state that you support HF 81. Tell them in a personal way why kids riding dirt bikes designed for them with proper safety gear is important to you. Just a few sentences.

Let them know:
* It is a safety issue. Kids need to have dirt bikes and ATVs that fit them. Accidents are more likely to happen when kids are put on adult sized machines.
* The exemption is only until 2032 when PFAS are banned from all products. This delay gives the manufacturers enough time to find a replacement.
* PFAS use in OHVs is in gas tanks, hoses, gaskets, etc. They keep fuel from leaking and parts functioning. It can be dangerous to put in an untried fix to meet the arbitrary date designated by the law. And kids don't put any of these parts in their mouths.

Here you can thank Rep Heintzman for authoring the bills.

You can also tell them that you oppose HF 1012. Tell them in your own words that the bill is really an anti-access bill against motorized recreation. It is being sold as a common-sense environmental protection bill.

Close with a statement thanking them for listening to your comments.

Add your name and your address to show that you do live in their district. You can add your phone and e-mail address if you want and let them know that you are happy to answer any motorized recreation questions they might have.

You MUST add some personal comments to the note. You can't copy and paste with only the information in this note because every identical submission only counts as 1 submission. Adding a personal note allows each submission to count.

The District 23/ARMCA bill to fix the PFAS youth bike ban will be heard at on Tuesday, March 4th at 1PM at the Capitol building in room G3. This is for the House side.

Feel free to come and wear a jersey to show you support kids riding. Bring your kids as well to show the committee that kids really do ride dirt bikes.

Send in your comments on the bills if you haven't already. We need both Democrats and Republicans to vote for these bills to get them out of Committee and passed on the Floor. The goal is to have the bill go directly to the Floor and not wait for the end of the year package (omnibus) bill.

ACTION NEEDED: Send a note to legislators to help stop the ban on youth dirt bikes in MN. Possible hearing on Tuesday, Mar 4th.

Oppose the anti-access bill.

QUICK NOTES: Send a note to your legislators telling them to support the bills that have been submitted to correct the issue of youth sized dirt bikes, ATV, and snowmobiles being banned as a result of the PFAS (forever chemicals) being banned from new products designed for or marketed to kids 12 and under.

Our bill we submitted (as District 23/ARMCA) via Rep Heintzman is HF 81 = https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bills/bill.php?b=House&f=HF81&y=2025&ssn=0

Another good one is from Rep Zeleznikar, HF 654 = https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bills/bill.php?b=House&f=HF654&y=2025&ssn=0

Ask your legislators to support those bills. Copy Rep Heintzman ([email protected]) and Zeleznikar ([email protected]) and thank them for introducing the bills.

Oppose the anti-access bill: HF 1012 https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bills/bill.php?f=HF1012&y=2025&ssn=0&b=house

And if you want, there is a bill to remove the lane filtering law that was passed last year: HF 663 https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bills/bill.php?f=HF663&y=2025&ssn=0&b=house
